Better Call Saul - Season 04

Better Call Saul: excellent show
I've watched Better Call Saul's first three seasons on Netflix, which for some reason kept delaying acquisition of season four in the US. I've watched all three seasons three times--and recently began a fourth. I've also done three tours of Breaking Bad from beginning to end.Due to the aforementioned delay on season 4, I finally paid ten bucks to purchase it on Amazon--and then a month later it comes out on Netflix. I could've watched it for free if I'd just waited three or four weeks...hah.I don't regret my (now redundant) purchase--it's still an excellent show--albeit there's probably a lesson on patience somewhere in there. If nothing else, my purchase gave the creators, writers, distributors, actors, and crew one more statistic adding to the sea of thumbs up(s). If season five exhibits the same delay (eight months teasing and dodging the initially projected Netflix arrival), I'll be checking Amazon to see if I can donate ten more impatient dollars to Jimmy, Kim, Mike, Nacho, Gus, Hector and Chuck. But congratulations Netflix; from your perspective I needlessly boosted a competitor's coffers solely on your deficiency.--- fawning fanboy flattery ---If you've not seen the show, SEE IT. It's a top-tier project in every way.I can't for certain say whether it would be best to see Breaking Bad first (as I did). There may be advantages to watching Saul before Walt--but one indisputable point is that Breaking Bad is complete, whereas the legend of Jimmy McGill has not yet been fully told. What were we learning a moment ago about patience? That said, I suspect Better Call Saul is best viewed second. It will certainly be more satisfying after Breaking Bad, given the allusions to it craftily presented within Jimmy's story. Each season begins with a vignette showing a taste of Jimmy's life post-Breaking Bad. While I haven't seen anything so far I'd label a significant spoiler, those definitely make more sense after BB as well.

One of the Best Series of the Last Half of the 2010s
"Better Call Saul" deserved all of the plaudits it received in its first three seasons. The series follows one of the many memorable characters from "Breaking Bad," Jimmy McGill (Bob Odenkirk), as he curdles into Saul Goodman. This DVD set contains all ten episodes of the fourth season of "Better Call Saul" that originally aired on AMC from August to October in 2018.This season moves Jimmy ever closer to his role in the parent series, tracking him during his year-long suspension from practicing law. He reacts to the death of his brother Chuck (Michael McKean), continues his relationship with fellow lawyer Kim Wexler (Rhea Seehorn), and becomes more adept at dealing with the seamier elements of Albuquerque while beginning to build the clientele he would "serve" as Saul Goodman. The absorbing plot concerning Gus Fring (Giancarlo Esposito), Mike Ehrmantraut (Jonathan Banks), and the Salomanca drug ring runs alongside. As in "Breaking Bad," creators Vince Gilligan and Peter Gould use unique and creative camera angles to help tell the stories, and again this season the writing is superb, the characters are compelling (I would watch a spinoff concerning virtually any of the show's main characters), and the cinematography of Albuquerque and the surrounding New Mexico desert is as good as it gets. Fans eagerly await the last season or two of this instant classic.

The momentum builds
Anyone can see what is happening: the audience is building. The audience is loving this series. The deluge of reviews, positive to negative on the spectrum, shows a lot of people care. This is what good television does - it builds and grows.

Essential For Fans of the Breaking Bad Universe
This is a little different than Breaking Bad. Fans of the series already know Saul but here you find out his origins and a little about what happened after Breaking Bad. Lots of your favorite characters make a return here. No spoilers but it's nice to see some of these characters again. Of course it's mostly about Saul back when he was still "Jimmy McGill."I am looking forward to the upcoming Breaking Bad movie. Are you?I think fans of that show will find a lot to like here. The stories are all interesting and we get a lot of insight into our favorite characters. Finding out about Mike's story and others makes re-watches of Breaking Bad a lot richer and more textured experience. The origin of Saul Goodman is the focus and of course he is a fan favorite but we see others pop up as well. I don't want to spoil anything so I'll just say give it a try. You won't be disappointed.
