Extremely restrictive.
Used it on a 1" well pipe setup. Noticed a drop in flow. Ends up the inside diameter is only .5".....

Good pre-filter for your well.
This is the first filter in my array. (Followed by a 5 micron sediment filter, charcoal and a KDF to remove iron and sulfur.) Does exactly what its supposed to do, except for the flushing process. The sediment in my well seems rather like clay and sticks to the fine screen. I have to turn off the water, unscrew the plastic housing, remove the screen and clean it with light brushing. Not a huge deal, but just a tad more effort than I imagined. That has to be done regularly to maintain good water pressure.

Nice, sturdy filter
This is a nice filter, works well and easy to clean. The top housing is a clean, brass casting that is machined well and with good flow lines. The bowl is clear acrylic type material; it will eventually get old and brittle, but that is how they all are and the quality of this one is good compared to some others I have seen. Depending what is in your water the 40 micron filter may not self-clean (e.g. won't wash off scum), but it is easy to take out and wipe off and I was only using it with a low pressure transfer pump. I have used it to transfer tank water and remove solids and it did a great job.My only suggestion is that it would be good if they posted the pressure rating of the filter assembly as that isn't in the description or the provided documentation.

Save you money in the long run
Build wise this is a quality piece the brass to plastic everything is very heavy duty.Functionality is also very good traps a lot of sediment very easy to flush out. This is a must-have if you're on well water.this will save you money in the long one by making your water softener and IR filter not have to work so hardthis will save you money in the long one by making your water softener and IR filter not have to work so hard

It works too good.
OMG does this filter my well water. I followed the instructions to purge (flush) the filter weekly but I did it after just 5 days of use. I filled a large clear glass jug through the purge valve. It made me sick to think that we have been using this water for a year. The water had a brown haze and had lots of debris at the bottom. The water looked so bad, I added a second large filter that filters to .5 micron.

Easy to install and simple to use
Very pleased so far. I threaded the output side of this directly to my 20" sediment filter. I have fairly dirty well water so I'm hoping this will extend the life of my water softener and 2 downstream filters. Flushing this is very easy especially if you have a floor drain nearby. I flush it every few days and I always see sediment in the bottom, so I know it's working.

Bang for the buck
The first thing I did when I got it was drilled out the inside of the housing to 5/8" any bigger than that I would question the thickness left. I smoothed out all the sharp points inside the housing to allow the water to flow as good as possible. I utilized the 1" line and ran most of my line with 1" also and tapered down to 3/4" 10' from the filter. I have 0 complaints about flow. How it would do without what I did I'm not sure but reading other reviews I have to say it's a great bang for the buck.

Works fine as a pre filter.
I did not know how to answer flavor as we drink bottled water or reverse osmosis filtered water. I bought these to as pre filters for my camper and water well feed to my house. Btw it only has hose connection on one side so you have to get adapter to a hose for the other side.
