THREE Different Books!
EDIT: There is some confusion b/c the reviews are being combined for three different books with the same name. I'm redoing my review b/c I bought the 2009 book and got re-routed to the wrong version. The 2009 book is the TEXTBOOK. It has Harry Potter's notes "scribbled" in the margins. It's not a story; it's a very brief encyclopedia of magical creatures. The 2016 book is the SCREENPLAY for the movie. Note: if you want to beef up the story, read Rowling's 4 Magic in America excerpts on Pottermore.com (for free). I think the lack of background and coming to care for the characters through a series of books is what made the movie seem wanting for some fans. The 2017 book is a RE-RELEASED VERSION OF THE TEXTBOOK, and as I'm hearing (b/c I've only bought the first two), it doesn't have Potter's notes scribbled in it. It's sold formally with the 3 book Library set, which includes the Tales of Beedle the Bard and the History of Quidditch.I hope this clears up the confusion! Happy Reading!

Was Very Enjoyable!
To be honest, I wasn’t sure if I would enjoy this read. I don’t think I’ve ever read a screenplay before (aside from high school Shakespearean ones), so this was a new experience for me. At first, I found the rhythm a bit choppy and hard to get into. However, as the story progressed, the newness wore off a bit and the writing felt smoother. Because of the setup, the characters’ feelings and thoughts were only brushed upon, and therefore it was hard to connect with many of them.Regardless of this, I really enjoyed Newt. He was sensitive and caring, especially towards his magical creatures. I found this really endearing and fell in love with his animals, too.The pacing was fast and I was able to read this in two short sittings. It seemed like something was always happening. One of my favorite scenes was when Newt and newfound friend, Jacob, go into Newt’s case and see his animals. Though I already had an image of how this would look like, it was still magical to read about the varying creatures and how much Newt really loves them. One thing I had tough time with was trying to not picture the movie while I was reading. I purposely waited to read the screenplay because I didn’t want to spoil the movie, but now I’m thinking I should’ve read the screenplay first so I can have my own idea how everyone looked and acted. In any case, I really enjoyed the movie, and this was basically the movie in print form. However, I could see this being problematic for those who don’t like to repeat. If you are one of those people, I would caution that the book and movie are basically the same.Overall, I enjoyed this read, even though the format was something I wasn’t used to reading. As a warning, there is mention of child abuse, which may be uncomfortable for some and inappropriate for the younger crowd.I would recommend this fantasy screenplay to fantasy lovers, those who have enjoyed Harry Potter, and to those who don’t mind reading a screenplay.

Excellent Screenplay to a Great Movie.
This book is a written version of the movie. It is literally like reading the movie, with nothing extra. The book does give insight and depth to scenes in the movie, and gives appreciation to the actors who brought the characters to life. With J.K. Rowling focusing on the movie in the writing on this screenplay, I believe allows the movie to be richer. As with many books, the Harry Potter movies were forced to rush you through the books with much editing to contain the movie to less than three hours. This book is a reflection of what an excellent screen play should look like and exhibits J.K. Rowling's remarkable talent.I suspect that the Fantastic Beast movie series will be as successful as the Harry Potter series and just as addicting.

Newt Scamander's contributions well celebrated
Reading a screen play was a new experience for me. I really think it enriched my experience and understanding of the film. It was very interesting to see the screenplay brought to life. The technology used in the film helped to bring the story to life and without it we may not have fully seen how richly the fantastic beasts added to the plot, characterisation and theme of the screenplay.I would recommend this latest in J K Rowling's publications especially to people who want to see the film or have seen it as well as those whose interest was piqued like mine by the booklet she had written for a charity years ago. I thought the range of characters was wide enough and the main characters well drawn. There was an obvious tie in with the Harry Potter books but we got to see and understand more of Rowling's magical world and the depth of her imagination such as political insights.

I didn't dislike it, but it wasn't thrilling either
It was okay. I didn't dislike it, but it wasn't thrilling either. I didn't like that it was written in a play script format. That just takes away from the whole story line in my opinion. Why they only released that version is beyond me. Wait for the movie, it should be better.

Beautiful cover, wonderful book
I adore everything about this book, from it's absolutely stunning cover, to the interesting writing within. I find such books really interesting and as a huge JK Rowling fan, this was an addition that I really wanted for my book collection. Having seen the film many times, this book was of particular interest to me.

Beautifully designed
Absolutely loved the film so I thought I'd give the screenplay a go and I loved it! Interesting to read a screenplay and I love how quick it is to read and reminiscent of the film. The book is gorgeous as well with cute little illustrations of the creatures at the start of each 'chapter'.I love Pickett the Bowtruckle - he's the best!

Must Buy for Potter Fans
I waited until after I'd seen the film before reading this script to avoid spoilers and, I must say, I enjoyed each for different reasons. While the story is excellent, I was a little disappointed to find that this is the exact script of the film. This isn't an issue if that's what you're looking for, but I was personally hoping that there would be some extra tidbits that weren't shot. I guess they're saving them for the delete scenes on the DVD.Naturally, you miss out on something by reading the script - namely the performance put in by the wonderful actors and the brilliant special effects. However, you do gain the benefit of the stage directions which gave me a new reading on certain scenes, picking up on character motivation (especially for the likes of Credence and Queenie) that I don't think came across so well in the film. In this, I'm now curious to watch the film again to see how my new understanding affects the viewing. There is little point in reading this if you didn't enjoy the film or the universe in which it's set. However, for Rowling's fans, it's a must buy. The book itself is lovely, with its soft cover and stylised illustrations of the beasts, and is a great addition to any collection.

this is just a collector thing really as the film is more enjoyable, it is brilliant but I would rather have a proper novel not a screenplay of newts adventures.accio more films and novels

The condition of the book was perfect, the cover, the pages, the quality, amazing. However, the condition of the author and the content of the book, not so much. Cedric Diggory- a death eater? Really? The lad that was literally a Hufflepuff (which should say enough) but had a heart made of gold, helped Haz during the triwizard tournament and was willing to become a joint winner so everyone was happy and pretty much was a 15 year old or less who stood up to the scariest villain of his time knowing there would definitely be certain death as to protect Harry not because he was the chosen one but just because he was there was made a death eater?! Absolute blasphemy. Don't know what kinda ket J.K was on but take this whole potterworld universe away from her. pls
