It works great! Thank you
This is the first book on soap making that I have purchased - there was no second yet. It was enough for me to get started, and I have made two loafs so far without difficulty. The instructions were more than sufficient to get going. I can hardly wait to see the end products, need to wait one more week for the minimum two weeks waiting period.I even made the soapbox myself - went to Home Depot and asked the guy to cut up the long piece of wood to get the exact dimensions as described in the book. It works great! Thank you.

seriously if you like natural handmade herbal soaps
This is my third try at cold process soap over the span of about eleven years and I wish I could have started with this one book. This is the ONLY book you need, seriously if you like natural handmade herbal soaps. I've made 20 lbs of soap in the last two weeks and haven't had to throw out any of them! Every batch from your recipes came out smelling wonderful (although I use about half the essential oils in mine) and looking beautiful. I feel like an herbologist, grinding and mixing my herbs. Essential oils are expensive but so worth it. Following your mixing method, I did not have one batch seize up on me. I got into it this year to stock my cabinet back up and give bars as Christmas gifts but I actually think they might be good enough to sell. I'm recommending this book to everyone who wants to start or try once again to make their own soap. Thank you for writing a book that finally makes this easy for me!

An Instant Classic!
Being new to soap making, I decided to purchase a beginner's guide. This book is amazing! It reads just as any other book. The variety of recipes and ingredients in this book can accommodate any need. Gregory Lee White, this book is such a blessing. The detailed lists of carrier oils, SAP values, and explanations of each essential oil is phenomenal. Each soap also has a description about how it is beneficial.I have very active eczema and this book caters to my needs! Thank you again!

Great Book
I received my book yesterday and I have looked it over pretty good. This is in response to the guy that wrote Crappy Book. I looked at the Master Batch recipe on the percentage of the coconut oil that is suppose to be 50% and I can not find those percentages anywhere. That is not at all what he wrote. He wrote 7lbs 8 ounces vegetables shortening (120 oz.), 3 lbs 2 ounces coconut oil (50 oz) and 3lbs 2 (50oz)ounces olive oil. I ran it through the lye Calculater and it's was all within the percentage there. I think Crappy Book messed up and wanted someone to blame. How about manning up and say you screwed up!! It is a good book. No it does not have any pictures so for that go online. I like having a book to go by when I am trying something new. I am not new at making cold processed soap so maybe that's y I like it but the truth is, none of my soap books have alot of pictures. I learned by watching online videos and used the books for recipes and further information on making soaps. I will make the Master Batch and report back on how it turned out. There was also a review that gave this book a one star because it made soap from scatch. I do believe that is what the title said Get a grip people! !!

If could give it 10 stars I would have!
OH MY GOODNESS this was one of the best books I have read when it comes to any sort of craft making idea. It is well written, easy to read and funny at times. I read it in one sitting! It has many recipes in the book. Some simple, some more complicated (meaning more ingredients). The safety information is drilled in throughout the book which is great for those who don't seem to see it, hear it or read it the first time. The beginning goes through the soap making process step by step which is used throughout the book but only written once. Some people may complain about this as it's not on every recipe page but my thought is then write the recipe on a sticky note and put it in the beginning of the book where the steps are. I love the "Master Batch" soap! Great idea and I am so going to try it. Now mind you I have never made soap but plan too. I bought a couple different soap making books. I have skimmed the others which are very long books. This one is short, simple and to the point which is exactly what a beginner like me wants. I do think those who already make soap may enjoy this book. As I said there are many recipes from luxury type soaps with more expensive oils and essential oils to much less expensive types of soaps with simple everyday ingredients you can find at the supermarket. Oh there is a section on how to label your soap, package them, sell them etc. The best section is on what some customers have said or done. I haven't laughed so hard in a long time! Thank you for a well written and enjoyable book on making soap from scratch Mr. White!

It is ok
It's an ok book. I won't be using any of it. As a beginner, I'd prefer smaller recipes to start with. I'd prefer a quick recipe instructions on the page instead of follow soap making instructions. You then need to go back to the beginning of the book and look at the long 5 pages of really complete instructions. Those 5 pages need to be there to explain how to and all the safety issues, but when doing a recipe, you no longer need the in depth, put on safety glasses, set your scale back to zero, set lye in a safe place stuff that takes up 5 pages. If it's to hard to put a synopsis on the recipe page, then copy and paste it after each recipe. I guess after the ease of Jan berry's book, and smaller recipes, I was very disappointed in it. As a beginner, the book confused me in places. I did like the overview of essential oils, but even that is in the other book, so I wouldn't buy it for that.

OK as far as it goes
It's a great book from the "How to do it" POV. However, it wasn't made clear - and this is so often the case on Amazon - that it's an American book by an American author. I've nothing against the USA or American authors but I'm used to working in metric measures and I find having to convert all the time a real pain. I'm also not conversant with US measures and how they differ from Imperial (which I also dislike working with). Certainly when one is working with the materials used in soapmaking, some of which are lethal, accuracy of measure is extremely important. The supplier pages are also redundant from a European perspective as a) some of the ingredients are unobtainable in Europe/UK and b) I'd rather not pay the customs duties on importing such ingredients.
