Pretty good information
After delving into the mind-body connection recently, I became interested in breathing for stress relief/illness recovery. I learned a few basic breathing exercises from other books, but nothing too complicated. I figured this book would expand my knowledge of the subject. This book explains, in detail, several different types of breathing exercises you can teach yourself to do. I thought it would be difficult to learn how to breath from a book, but the author does a good job of explaining the exercises. While this book provides what it promises - it wasn't exactly what I was looking for. I wanted a book with more explanations on what each breathing exercise does for you. I wanted to know more about how breathing affects emotions and illness. This book did not really delve into the "why" too much (sorry, I am a gemini so I always want to know "why"). It is mostly a "how to". So if you are looking for instructions, this is the book. However, if you want more in depth information about the mind/body connection and how breathing affects it, there are better books. One book in particular is The Presence Process, by Michael Brown. All in all, I rate this book 4 stars, because it gives the reader what it promises. But, that is all you get.

Breathing towards a better life
Lewis uses the word "awareness" as a key element to improve your breathing. Most authors advocate deep breathing; however, few alert readers to monitor this process. In fact, one can optimize breathing by simply paying attention to it. Becoming aware of your breathing and body movement will teach you to breathe efficiently and naturally -- this book shows that.It has also taught me how to handle stressful situation. In such state, instead of rapidly changing the breathing rhythm, I calm down by simply being alert and analyzing my breathing. Thus, the more you pay attention to your breathing the more you improve your life quality. However, in order to obtain optimum results it is essential to do the exercises shown in the book.Speaking of breathing exercises--known by experts as breathing experiments--I would also recommend "Ways to Better Breathing" by Carola Speads: the best.

lost my attention
I could just be that lazy ignorant college student, but I feel add if this was written to be a text book (Yawn). I say this because the writings in it are lengthy, and takes a while for points to be made. There are many techniques, but I feel that the way this was written isn't engaging. there's way more " do this", than reasoning behind it.

Wasn't exactly what I needed
I did these breathing exercises daily for a couple of months. I'm a very relaxed person and probably breathed fine to begin with. I didn't notice any changes from the exercises. However, I think that there may well be people who could benefit from this book as they're way stressed out.

I didn't think it gave enough instruction. A lot ...
I didn't think it gave enough instruction.A lot of filler. Could have been a shorter book or a more instructive book.

Good but not my cup of tea
I'm sure this is a good book for someone I just didn't get along with it. Perhaps too long and convoluted
