The rings are solid and sturdy, but they are not self tapping.

The ring on these is just big enough for the plastic end hooks on bungee cords to fit. Can be screwed into soft wood by hand but hard wood may need a pilot hole drilled first. I've used these on the posts on my screened patio, my wood fence and on the door trim on the barn.

We used these to hang a tarp above our patio to provide some cover from the rain and debris from the upstairs neighbors. Been up about 4 months and still holding up! Didn’t even need to drill, just screwed them straight into the wooden deck with my hand.
