My favorite Yoga book to date
I love anatomy and yoga and this book was so well written that it became an immediate favorite. I found myself in awe several times at the insights I found within its pages and eagerly shared those insights with my partner who is much less inclined to read (and who would be incredibly lost reading this information intensive book). Now that I have finished the book I have a much deeper understanding of my practice and the purpose/roots of yoga. I am able to be mindful of what is happening within my body as I move through each pose, which I am certain helps keep me safer and progressing faster. For example, the conversation about breathing and shape change allowed me to fully connect my breath to movement and I finally understood what ujjayi pranayama meant and how to do it.Although the terminology may be overwhelming if you have never studied any anatomy, for me it was perfect and the precision of the language really helped me grasp what the book was describing. This would also be a wonderful book for anyone who wishes to teach yoga! When yogi instructors talk about the healing power of each pose I often find myself marveling at the lack of basic anatomical understanding (I was once told that Eagle helps massage the pituitary gland O.O). This text would quickly remedy any confusion while helping create accurate descriptions of what is really going on during each pose.By far the best yoga book I have purchased (so far). I look forward to revisiting it as grow in my practice and know I will learn something new each time I do.

Don't buy the Kindle version!
The book is fantastic - I am learning so much about the physiology behind yoga. The book has great illustrations, diagrams, and tables, and it just doesn't come through on Kindle. I ended up buying the hard copy too. Highly recommended, but buy the actual book.

Anatomy text teaches yoga at same time
Nice text explores musculoskeletal anatomy while also teaching yoga asana. Not 100% evidence-based, this is also based partly in yoga tradition and myth. I have another yoga anatomy text which illustrates and explains the actions of the muscles with less mythological baggage.

Best yoga book
This is the best yoga book I've ever found. The poses shown are my favorites plus it shows exactly which muscles are being used in each pose. Lots of poses too. I've been doing yoga for a long time but I think this might work for a beginner as well, especially if they're taking classes.

Helpful but overkill
If you wanted to learn about the anatomy (yoga aside) this will help a lot. However this book is quite overkill at least in the beginning. The science goes so in depth to the point it is covering atoms which in the grand-scheme of things you do not need to know in order to be efficient in Yoga. That aside getting a deeper understanding for breath, how things expand and contract to what changes volume while other things just re-positions matter within the existing volume is helpful. But what is bad is you can easily miss those things if you don't read or at least know what to look for.To conclude whether you absorb easily or not, if you take your time this book can be a great tool. Just don't let the content overwhelm you; go into it with a goal in mind and use the book to achieve that goal as I did.

Good illustrations but too many words to describe something basic
I found first half of this book to be a waste of time to read. It talks about very basic concepts in too many words and some sentences describing something simple in a very difficult wordy way. After reading a whole chapter I thought to myself - what did I actually gain from reading it - the answer was not a lot!The second part of the book is more interesting as it shows which organs and parts of the body are being used in typical yoga poses so this was more useful and interesting to read.

Boning up on anatomy
This is a good book with beautiful illustrations and a wealth of information. I have only basic prior knowledge of anatomy and this is not a bad book to start with. One thing that could be clearer is that some of the anatomy mentioned in text does not correspond with the labelling in the illustration in that particular section. I've had to search through other chapters and illustrations to find the corresponding body part. It might have been helpful to have complete overview illustrations for bones and another for muscles. However, I particularly like the headings for the asanas, both the English and Sanskrit terms are used. The Sanskrit pronunciation is broken down into speech sounds e.g Virabhadrasana = veer-ah-bah-DRAHS-anna and then an explanation of what the name means = the name of a fierce mythical warrior. The authors could have used phonetic symbols, but this simplification saves the need to cross reference with a phonetic chart. I also particularly like the illustrations taken from unusual angles. One for Bakasana, Crow/Crane pose was first photographed from below through an elevated acrylic sheet and then the illustrator uses superwoman x-ray vision to sketch a view of the bones and muscles. This is a book I am sure I will return to often during and after yoga teacher training.

Book contents r useful but seller’s ethic is not nice
They have sent me the old stock. The quality of Print and colour in the book makes the different. This is my second purchase of the same book for gifting, in my initial purchase i got latest one which is far better in quality, and in volume of the book it less thicker.(Photo: left (older version)is the one i got, right (recent version)is the one i purchased before )When they sell in Amazon, they put photo of recent edition, in actual they send us the older version. This is not nice.Although i find this book very useful for understanding the right muscle which should be used as per different yoga postures.

Great book
I have studied anatomy so for me this book is very easy to understand, but even if you didn't you should be able to follow. It's nicely put together, beautiful details and drawings, it is a very good way to expand your knowledge.

Really great insights and explanations for yoga practice on the mat
What a fab introduction to what happens inside the body as we practice yoga. I'm not very good at sciencey stuff, but this is a really clear explanation and helps you get a really good understanding of how breath and movement (asana) sync during practice.
