OtterBox Commuter Series Case for Samsung Galaxy S4 - Carrier Packaging - Wild Orchid

I purchased this case for my wifes Galaxy S4. I had looked at the Otterbox website and according to there website they had not released these colores yet in Silver and Pink. I did not want the black nor the white with gray for her so I decided to see if by chance anyone had any of the other colors. To my surprise they did. I contacted the company first to see if they actually had it in stock and not backorderd. They replied quickly as in stock. I placed the order and received it with in three days. I am very pleased with the customer service and there quick shipping.The otterbox itself is really nice. My wife seems to really like it. I have the S3 with an otterbox as well and there are a couple of things that I noticed right away. First, was the volume and power pushers. On this new model they are perfect, not hard like on the S3 but not to soft either. I was really pleased about that but the one thing that does have me a little worried is that on the S3 the outer hard plastic goes around the pushers just leaving the corners exposed with the rubber and on the S4 the hard plastic ends underneath the volume and power pushers, leaving more of an area with just the rubber. To me atleast, it just seems like the S3 has better protection with the outer hard plastic going all the way up. I'm not sure if it was made this way so they can make the pushers softer or for better grip but in any case that is what I noticed and thought I should mention it. Besides that, the rest of the case is wonderful. It's not to bulky and has a good feel to it. I would trust this case over most others. I am just wainting for them to realease the other colors like the silver and blue for me to purchase as I just got an S4 for myself.

UPDATE: Let's rewrite this review a bit in the hope of improving the "helpful" vote tally....I agree fully with a previous reviewer, M. Heaps (hence the title of the review). I have had Otterbox cases on numerous devices: from Apple products (such as iTouch and iPad) to Amazon products (such as the Kindle Fire HD) to Blackberry phones (both traditional models and flip phone models) to Samsung products (such as Galaxy Note 2, Galaxy Tab 2 10.1, and Galaxy S4). So I have a bit of experience with Otterbox products.Yes, this Commuter case does the job, but I had a problem with dust getting under the screen protector (I am no noobie "installing" these; could Otterbox consider including 2 protectors in the retail box) and the outer case did not hold the phone as snugly as the Defender series I'm used to.The Defender series outer layer has a rubbery feel that helps with grip, while the outer layer on the Commuter series case is plastic/has a plasticky feel. While I have no problem holding on to items wrapped in a Defender series case, I found the Galaxy S4 "squirting" out of my hand on a couple of occasions. Of course, if sliding in and out out one's pocket is a priority, this slipperiness is probably a plus and the rubbery feel of the Defender a minus....In the end, this was a bit of a disappointment. While I can't recommend the Commuter series (at least for the S4), I remain a huge fan of Otterbox (their customer support is superb). So if you're on the fence deciding between Otterbox and another manufacturer, doubt no more. If you're on the fence about the Commuter case of the S4, you might find it helpful to compare - in your hands - a Defender case and a Commuter case. They not only have different levels of protection, I think they also have different usage philosophies.So from my usage perspective this item earns 3 stars (though I can see why other reviewers rate it as 5 stars).P.S. With regard to the specific color I ordered (Wild Orchid), I was hoping for a vibrant red (as shown on my computers from at least several of the pictures), but what you get is a bright, but simple pink. This is not necessarily a problem with the case, but with the listing (and that could be either an Otterbox promo photo issue or a color change uploading the photo to the listing).

I can't recommend this brand enough to my friends and family. It's sturdy, functional, and protects your investment. I don't clip the phone to me, I carry my phone in my purse, so the Commuter Series is exactly what I need. My last phone was a Galaxy 2 which was encased in a Commuter Case. One day, while in a rush getting into the car, the phone fell and I ran over the phone (face up) with the car tyre. I nearly had a heart attack when I realised what I had done! I rushed to pick up the phone, mentally berating myself, only to do a happy dance when I checked the phone. I have an SUV, and the only damage to the case was a few dents on the back where the case was pressed into the uneven ground. The phone still works beautifully and the screen only needed a wet wipe to clean the dirty tyre track off it. I'll never buy anything else to protect such an expensive purchase. I've purchased other cases/holders for my phone, but this is by far the best of all.Edited 29 October 2013: Not so perfect after all.....I love my Otterbox, don't get me wrong, but I am disappointed that the pink soft cover got dirty so fast and I can't get it clean. So the case constantly looks dirty, which is a shame, because I have a white S4 and it looked so pretty in the beginning. My advice is to choose a dark colour that doesn't show dirt, because the product stands up well to wear and tear.I'm not changing my rating, because the product itself is sturdy, it's just the colour (pink soft inner cover and grey hard outside cover) was a bad choice. (Sigh)I've stopped using the case and have switched to a wallet type case that I can hold credit cards and cash in as well.

Amazing

Used this case for over 4 years with my old phone- just upgraded to a newer phone. This case protected my previous phone from countless bumps, drops, scrapes, and a toddler! Finally cracked a piece off of this case about two months ago when dropped on a very cold day onto uneven brick. Even then, the damage was minimal and only the case was injured, my phone was completely protected! Purchased a new otterbox for my new phone, an expect just as much durability as this will be the 4th case I've had from them and all have worked very well

My wife is always dropping her phone, and the last otterbox had lasted a really long time, but it was time to replace it. I didn't want to spend a fortune to protect a phone that's so old, so I got the lowest priced one in "purple and pink" because she's not really picky about cases. I expected it to be not-so-attractive, but it is actually quite nice. The purple is much softer than expected, almost grey. It looks really nice and the bright pink makes it easy to find it gets misplaced.

The install instruction for the screen protector is very vague. No explanation for the install card. Mine turned out ok though.The softer rubber(?) sleeve is slightly out of shape near the volume buttons, power button and earphone plug and have a small gap (only about a millimeter or half that, but it's annoying) between the phone and the case.Otherwise good case.

Very pleased with this case! It is exactly as they describe and it's not too bulky for a pocket or purse while still providing good protection for your phone. Highly recommended! I have been through about 5 other cases before this but now I wouldn't use anything but this case. I particularly like the 2-tone and the port covers.

Shattered my screen twice with this case on. I should've learned after the first time. It fell from 4ft the first time onto a tile floor - completely shattered the entire screen. The second time it fell from 2ft onto a carpet. So on top of the cost for this useless case, the hidden fees included a screen replacement at $160 and ultimately a new phone. I sure won't be protecting my new one with an OtterBox!
