Once it was unboxed, it was ready to use - after thoroughly cleaning of course. It has a relatively small footprint on my counter, which is nice since my kitchen is super-small. The machine is pretty quiet so far, definitely not loud or annoying. I found some great gelato recipes online (Recipes from Italy) despite the maker coming with a recipe booklet, and followed the instructions provided. Once I added all the ingredients, I followed the simple two steps, turn on the machine and set it to making ice-cream. It's that easy! Both batches of gelato were done in a relatively quick period of time, less than 40 minutes and it was ready to eat. The gelato is super smooth and delicious, probably some of the best gelato I've had, including what I ate when touring Italy several years ago. **Q: have used this twice and both times the paddle has stopped turning after 40 minutes and is like soft serve, what am i doing wrong?**
A: It should take less time since this only goes to a soft serve stage unlike their older discontinued model.  The paddle is moved by magnets and can not handle any harder stage unlike mechanically driven one.  Make sure you refrigerate for a couple of hours first.  Also turn it on about 5 minutes before adding anything so it has time to cool down first.  Sorbets take less time.

**Q: Does this machine truly make 2 quarts?  I have a Cuisinart that claims to have a 1.5 quart capacity, but it never produces much more than 1 quart.**
A: I purchased this model about 6 months ago from Amazon and have used it several times. I follow the recipe for a 2 quart batch of custard in my ice cream recipe book, and that batch fits comfortably in the mixing canister -- leaves about 3/4 of an inch to the top rim.

**Q: when will additional mixing bowls and blades be available for purchase? they're not for sale on amazon and they're "currently unavailable" elsewhere!**
A: The manufacturer still has no supplies as of Oct 2021. That is important because the major defect on this machine is that the bowel seems to be the weak link, and you can't obtain a replacement, so the whole machine is unusable if you have one with only a defective bowl. You will know if your bowel starts to squeal when turning. It will only get worse as time goes on till it seizes up and there is no solution to the problem as the manufacture has no replacement bowels for sale

**Q: what is the bowl made of?**
A: The 200 LS has the aluminum bowl and the 220SSY has the stainless steel bowl.

This product is amazing. I purchased it for my husband for his birthday. We have made gelato, ice cream, and sorbet. All of them were delicious and so easy to make. My husband makes ice cream 2-3 times a week. He loves his new gift and so do I. I can't wait to try and make the yogurt! The built-in compressor is fantastic, especially for someone new to homemade ice cream like me. There's no need to pre-freeze bowls or plan ahead - I can make ice cream on a whim. We tried it out with a chocolate recipe, and I was blown away by the results. It far surpassed even the best commercial ice creams I've tried, both in texture and flavor. While we've only made chocolate so far, I'm excited about the possibilities this machine opens up.
