It told me in my order information that it was 4 1/2” x 3/8” but when I received it and opened the box I found out that it is 5/16” diameter, so now if I choose to keep and use it, the ferro rod will be loose in my knife sheath loop. My sheath ferro rod loop is made for 3/8” diameter rods. Not happy at all about that! **Q: Where is this manufactured?** A: China **Q: what is the rod diameter** A: 1/2" **Q: How does it work? Never used one** A: It it REALLY COOL! It works very well. You hit the magnesium rod hard in a striking motion and it produces white hot sparks. It starts a fire very easily. This one is a really good one also. I think you will be happy with it. It takes just a little practice OUTDOORS to get the hang of it.
