Check the impeller first: A stuck pool pump impeller can show similar humming noise. Power off, remove the pump basket, fish around with fingers or screwdriver and feel if you can spin it, replace basket and cover, then try to start it again. My impeller wasn't stuck so I then ordered this capacitor. Pretty easy plug & play: disconnect power, discharge the capacitor, then swap out the two connections. This one was about the same diameter as my original, but much shorter. Fits into the external housing cap no problem. Pump fired right back up like new! Price is right. Review: It worked well. - This is for the older pool motors. The motor first hummed then just stopped. Eventually the motor started. This happened five times per start then the motor eventually completely stopped working.
