Review: Seems to be good value for $$ but Filter Contents are Up side Down from Original Berkey - On the Berkey filter the directions say same as this filter, to only turn 7 or so times so that the inner seal is not punctured. But if you take a q-tip and gently put it in the UP end, the Berkey's filter seal & content are at the top and the q-tip only goes in a short distance. This filter's turned the opposite direction and the q-tip goes in the botton the same distance as the top of the Berkey filter. If putting a q-tip in the UP end of this filter it goes a much longer distance into the canister... similar to the bottom opening of the Berkey. I bought these and I can tell you the flow is a lot faster than the other ones which is concerning **Q: Does anyone know if this also removes pesticides like the berkey? There is no detailed description on what it removes. Thanks for the help!** A: I sent mine back after reading to only filter treated water. Whereas the Berkey’s can filter pond water if needed. It’s not an apples to apples comparison The Berkey’s are patented multi-media filters designed to filter contaminated water. Wheras these filters are coconut charcoal designed to filter tapwater. **Q: Why are the TDS much higher than tap water after filtering the water** A: No idea, but stick with the Berkeley filters. These knock-offs suck. They do not filter as well, and the documents sent with the filters tells you they are not to be used outside of a domestic water system. May as well buy a brita filter instead of these. I made the mistake of getting them and noticed right away how bad they are. **Q: How do I perform the red dye test and where do I get it?** A: It is not something you get. Once you have your filters installed fill your system with water. Then add a few drops of red food coloring. If your filters are working right the water once it has run through the filters should come out clear. I don't know that it really makes any difference in it's filtering capabilities but you don't need to be so concerned about not tightening the the filter into place with only the exact turns. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ No Blue Cap, however it's irrelevant *by J***. on June 26, 2020* I see alot of comments about the water not tasting right etc. Be sure to prime these filters first. You take the tan "washers" (pictured above) and hold it up to the tap until the water runs clear. You run water through both ends and for good measure I run through water again in the direction the water flows through it. These fluoride filters attach to the black filter, this is important. It comes with a pretty good picture/diagram esque note, again, (picture above). My only complaint is that it says to wash it with the "blue cap" on. I ordered two sets of two filters, neither came with a "blue cap". That's what most of pictures are about. When I ordered them through Berkey, they came with a cap. However because I use castille soap, I washed it successfully without the blue cap, and felt it was okay. I guess it doesn't really matter if you wash it and then run the water through for some time to thoroughly rinse it out. However, because the product does not come with what it says it does, I am giving it 4 stars. In conclusion, it doesn't really matter about the blue cap, it just bothers me that it says it's there & it's not. Overall this product is fine and will save you money vs getting the Berkeys. I find that customer service through Berkey is pretty sub par so that's why I felt no need to stay brand loyal. Also, Berkey has been out of stock with these for some time. So, I figured something was better than nothing.
