In 2011, I purchased a Prince Lionheart 2 Stage Seatsaver for my grandson’s car seat. While I liked its beige color, that particular two-piece seat protector did not provide complete coverage of the seat. In contrast, the “Summer Infant Elite DuoMat for Car Seat Black” completely covers the seat of my Toyota Highlander. Further, the pocket on the front of the DuoMat hangs over the front edge of the seat and provides additional protection to the front of the seat base. I liked the construction of the “Summer Infant Elite DuoMat for Car Seat Black”. The back, bottom, and pocket join into one continuous unit. Because you do not have to be concerned about positioning both pieces correct, that makes installation less “irritating”. A heavy-duty, twill-like tape binds the entire outer edge of the DuoMat. Strategically located fold-lines result in better fit of the DuoMat to your specific vehicle. In the event of an accident, the non-skid backing helps minimize the chance that the DuoMat will slide. I am using the “Summer Infant Elite DuoMat for Car Seat Black” with a rear-facing infant seat, so I decided to sew ties made from double-fold bias tape onto the back top-edge binding. This allowed me to secure the DuoMat’s back to the headrest posts and helped prevent the back from flopping over. Although I could have folded the DuoMat’s back down, I preferred having the entire back of my vehicle’s seat protected. It would have been nice if the manufacturer had recognized that parents/grandparents might prefer to secure the seat protector’s back and had put ties on the DuoMat. I would have liked it if I had had another color option when I purchased the DuoMat. Although black does not show the dirt, it absorbs heat and in Texas that is something to consider. Further, because my car’s interior is a light tan, if the “Summer Infant Elite DuoMat for Car Seat, Black” does stick or transfer color to the leather, it will be more noticeable. I am very pleased with the “Summer Infant Elite DuoMat for Car Seat, Black”. I would recommend it to anyone needing a car seat protector. The things I did not care for were not significant enough to warrant subtracting a star.

In our previous vehicle, the car seats left an imprint in the leather when tightened in place over long periods of time, which they were most of the time. There were also incidences of spilled milk, juice, and snacks, so we felt these covers would protect from that as well. We chose these covers over the other, lesser expensive, options due to their size (providing adequate coverage for larger convertible car seats), thickness (eliminating the imprint left in leather when seats are installed for long periods of time), and overall quality. The covers fit nicely in our SUV, I especially like the non-slip material on the back, keeping them in place, and the mesh pockets on the front for storage (you can never have enough). When we purchased these, they were only marginally more than the smaller options, making them a great value, but prices are subject to change as they are more expensive at the time of this review than what we paid for them. Regardless, even at their current price, I feel they are a good value compared to the other options available.

**Q: Has anyone found an alternative product that does not have the "melting into the leather seat" issue?**
A: Fake news, this one doesn’t melt. Have two, one in car w/black leather, one w/grey leather - no issues with either in heat/cold. Seat is strapped in tightly via Britax ClickTight system, no indents or stretch marks in leather thanks to this seat protector.

A: Thank you for your question. The Summer Infant Elite DuoMat is 6.5" taller and uses a premium memory foam for superior protection.

**Q: could this also be used for a toddler car seat?**
A: It can, but you may have a challenge getting the back of the pad to stay up on the back seat because it's the tall back of the regular car seat that holds the pad in place. Now, because I have a head rest on my back seat I was able to rig the seat cover in a way where I hooked it to the head rest and that held it in place. I graduated from car seats about 12 years ago and I just needed something to protect my leather seats from my older "children" age 17 and 20 (:) when they are sitting in the back eating and drinking God knows what! LOL! It protects my seats from all their crumbs. But, now that I think about it, if you use a booster seat, it's possible that when your child leans against the seat, their back could very well hold it in place. It's not a flimsy mat (good quality) and very well still could stay in place without it flipping forward (also depends on the texture of your seats). I say all that, to say this, probably the best thing to do is order it and try it and if it doesn't work for you, you can always send it back. I'm very pleased with mine!  I hope this helps and doesn't sound too confusing.

**Q: Does this stay up well all the way with a rear facing seat? Or will it buckle without having the car seat secure against the entire cover?**
A: You need to fold the mat at its crease on the back section. With my rear facing seat this gave plenty of protection for my seat. When rear facing not as much of the car seat is rubbing against your car. The mat stayed in place very well, protecting underneath and at the foot area of your rear facing seat.

My wife and I bought a new car not too long ago and, with leather seats, we definitely wanted to make sure that the seat was protected from our crazy children. They destroy everything. Kids are mini tornadoes that do not care about anything nice. Thankfully, these car seat protectors have saved my precious car from food, drinks, blood, snot, tears, and any other mess that you can possibly imagine. These seat protectors are literally magic. I feel bad for anyone who had issues with glue sticking or the item not working properly. My advice to anyone who has issues with them is to replace them with the exact same product and try again. They are amazing and I would not recommend any other product. I feel bad that some people are saying not to buy this product, because I can't tell you how many times it has prevented some serious internal frustration of having children. Now I can just let them throw food all around the back seat and not worry about my leather getting messed up!
