The lead single, "Panic" made its world premiere on Los Angeles' KROQ-FM on May 6, and was made available at all DSPs on May 10. The California-based combo - which features drummer Bud Gaugh and bass player Eric Wilson (both founding members of the legendary ska-punk band, Sublime) alongside gifted singer/guitarist Rome - recorded Yours Truly at El Paso, Texas' Sonic Ranch studio with producer Paul Leary. Review: Great Album, Not Sublime - This is by far not a Sublime album. I bought this album the day it dropped. I love it. Every song is well written, and the music is enjoyable. Very entertaining. With that said, it should not be called "Sublime with Rome". It should be more like "Rome featuring members of Sublime". I was and still am a die hard Sublime fan. I own every single album, bootleg, live show... You name it and I've got it. I waited for years to hear something new from Sublime. When I heard this album was dropping, I saw light at the end of the tunnel. But like I said this is not a "Sublime" album. Rome is great. He's a great songwriter, and great singer. But his lyrics are not anything like Bradley Nowells lyrics. In Brads lyrics about drug addiction, his dog, rockstar life, or just living in california, I found release. In Romes lyrics, i found a kid singing songs about girls, and smoking pot. Close but no Cigar. Bradley and the guys tried forever to achieve what they did. I feel like Rome just kind of stepped in and reaped the benefits of Brads hard work. I do enjoy this album, But nothing about it says sublime. The real sublime is gone but not forgotten. I recommend this album for every one, but dont expect anything remotely "Sublime". Review: Two different sounds on on album - There are two very different sounds/styles on this album... one sounds a whole lot like the old Sublime to me (the song "Panic") and the other, I have to assume, is the style that Rome brings with him. I'm a big fan of the original Sublime, but I have to say, I LOVE both styles. I suppose not everyone will enjoy both styles, but I think a wide range of people will (my dad bought the album after hearing it at my house). In my opinion, this is a VERY solid album. I have been listening to this CD on loop for months! I can't get enough and for ~$12 you can't go wrong! ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Rome isn't Bradley, but he could get there someday. *by M***R on July 27, 2011* I've been a Sublime fan since I first heard Smoke Two Joints on the Mallrats soundtrack in 1995. It wasn't long before I was buying everything Sublime had released, and it also was about a month or two after my becoming a fan, that Bradley passed away. I still consider Sublime to be one of the greatest bands of all time. So, when I heard that Eric and Bud had recruited a replacement for Bradley, that they were touring as Sublime and performing all their old material, my interest was peaked. This album is very good. It's not as good as 40oz to Freedom, nor Sublime, nor Robbin in tha' Hood (Who would expect it to be? It's their freshman album. Sublime's first album wasn't their best either. Though it doesn't have the continuity of a Sublime album that would allow me to listen from start to finish. Most of the songs are very good, and truly sound like a "Sublime song". Songs like: Panic, Only, Murdera, My World, Take It or Leave it, Dynamite, Safe and Sound, and Can You Feel It?, are all excellent Sublime songs reminiscent of old Sublime, yet with a slightly different sound, nevertheless, they are welcome entries into my new Sublime library. I consider them Sublime songs, and look forward to more like them. However, songs like PCH, Spun, and You Better Listen do not have the weight or substance of the original Sublime, they just don't have the passion and edge that Bradley wrote into his songs. They are a bit too pop for my liking, and won't be in my playlist for very long. I take this first release, Yours Truly, with a grain of salt. Rome is a very young man, and did not live the same life as Bradley, in particular, he is not on Heroin and Cocaine constantly, so maybe he lacks the edge in that respect, yet I'd hope he was a happier person with a longer life expectancy, something Sublime fans have always lamented about Bradley. He's got a great voice, and has written some pretty great songs here. I look forward to seeing where this new Sublime takes us with their next album. If Rome can continue to grow as a songwriter and guitarist, I think that Sublime with Rome could, someday, be the band they once were.
