Review: Not a miracle, but really handy when you can’t go out so often - I bought these because of COVID. Basically, I’m trying to go out a lot less, make fewer trips to stores for less exposure risk. Therefore what I buy needs to last, to stay fresh. My biggest issue was buying berries at the warehouse club or grocery store, in larger quantities than what I needed for just a week. I’d feel pressed to eat them before they spoiled, and they didn’t last for two weeks, so I was going to the store more than I wanted in the end. I looked at Rubbermaid and others, and settled on these for the value of a set, and good ratings. Not disappointed so far. I have the DM Green Bags, bought years ago, and those are pretty disappointing; they work, but not great, and they have a limited lifespan of only 10 uses. I never reordered them, haven’t used half of them. But this crisis made me think of them again. Compared to the bags, these boxes are better in most ways. They are sturdy, stackable, good for protecting what I’m worried about (fragile raspberries and blackberries), things that would be bruised in a bag. They’re easier to wash out well than the bags. And they don’t have a limited life, from what I can see so far. They nest, which is awesome for compact storage. I handwash, because the dishwasher is terrible for plastics, and heat releases chemicals you don’t want released. But they’re super easy to wash, and they don’t seem to stain. Most importantly, they are actually keeping my berries fresh for 2 weeks. I pick out and eat the softest ones first, each time I go into the container, but they haven’t molded in these containers, unlike in their ventilated plastic trays. I have easily gotten the raspberries, the most fragile of fruits, to last twice as long as normal. That’s what I wanted them for. Blackberries did great for almost 3 weeks. Again, take the softest ones each time you’re eating some; leave the sturdy ones for last, and they’ll survive longer. But they don’t actually work on everything. Strawberries, yes. Lettuce, I think so; I used the largest tub (which isn’t all that large) for the most delicate red lettuce leaves from the mixed greens, but I did eat it within a couple of days, so hard to know for sure. I used a Green Bag for herbs—big fail. Regular store bag plus a paper towel seems to be best for leafy herbs that can be stored in fridge, in my testing. Green bag made cilantro slime out a lot faster, not sure why. The containers are holding baby carrots right now, to compare with the vegetable container I bought with a drainage grid inside; that one is better than just the bag they came in, but not by a ton. We’ll see if the Green Boxes do better. Nice array of sizes; I do wish I had more big boxes, and possibly bigger than the largest size, but at some size, it may not be effective (or it would have to be flatter to be). The set comes with plenty of containers, so it’s not a big deal; I just use more than one if I need to. That may be a better idea anyway for berries, to use the shallow containers instead of the deep ones. For mushrooms, I prefer a paper bag. Same for jalapenos. Same for beets. I think these containers work best for the really delicate stuff, though not for herbs. They are a pain to open at first, as some other reviewers have noted; it just takes a bit of patience and getting used to it, but I think that’s because they’re supposed to be airtight at the seal. Reminds me of opening some of the plastic clamshells; risk of spilling stuff if you’re not careful. I always open on a counter, not up in the air, and so far no disasters.
Review: We absolutely love these green boxes. - We have had a set of these for many years and love them. I want to say we’ve had them about 10 years now. They are just beginning to show a little wear and tear. The boxes are still intact, but some of the lids are cracked where you pull the little tab to open them. I decided it was time to get some more. I guess it’s safe to say that they are definitely durable little container. I store nearly all our fruits and vegetables in these in the refrigerator. After I wash and/or cut fruits and vegetables then LET THEM DRY. Once they are dry I put them in one of these containers. I store veggies like celery, red/ green peppers, carrots, mushrooms, lettuce, broccoli, cauliflower and green onions and yellow/white onions. I use them for fruits like grapes, berries and fresh pineapple. They also work great with fresh parsley and basil. ( I imagine they work with many more fruits, veggies and herbs, but these are the most common things we use ). I also use them to make salads for lunches. I put the lettuce in a large one and the freshly sliced/copped veggie toppings in a smaller one. I can make a couple for the week ahead and they can grab them for their lunch box. Quick and healthy lunches made easy. To be sure, they aren’t going to keep everything “garden fresh”. Nothing is going to do that. Once it’s taken from the garden or tree, it begins to degrade. However, these definitely keep things fresher longer We definitely have much less waste. We don’t have to stop at the store as often just for fresh produce. Fruits/veggies are often odd shaped and/or bulky items that roll around in the fridge. These boxes stack neatly and leave more space in the fridge. Obviously they are green in color and not completely transparent, but it is still pretty easy to see what is inside the containers. We have been pleased with their durability and performance. Enough to come back years later for another set.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Are these boxes any different from Tupperware?**
A: Buyers need to be very aware of how they use a product like this ... is it used by you only ... only adults in the house ... by young children??? They are light weight yet durable if you use them carefully -- just CAREFULLY, not as though they are fragile. I am very careful with everything I own so these boxes last for years, and they ABSOLUTELY help preserve foods, BOTH cooked and fresh. I prefer organic produce so GreenBoxes have saved me plenty of $$$ through the years. They also freeze well, but be most careful when handling them frozen. If you drop them, they will crack very easily when frozen. I get busy and sometimes clumsy as I try to pull things from the frig for quick meal prep and will drop a container that's cold. I don't have the breakage problem with the cold ones like I do with those that are frozen, but I don't have cement floors in my home either. I can't imagine wasting money on other plastic ware when this stuff works so well. I just hope the company starts selling the boxes grouped by size in addition to a set. I find I need more of the small ones than any others, and I don't have room to store all the extra that comes in a full set with all sizes. Just a thought :-)

**Q: How do these ultra light boxes compare to the "standard" green boxes in the 74 piece set?**
A: I personally like these better than the standard ones because these UltraLites nest inside each other. They take up very little room when stored, they're translucent, and they also stack very neatly in the fridge :) I love them for my tidy lifestyle, try them out!

**Q: Has anyone used these for cut up veggies i.e. celery, carrots, red peppers?**
A: I love them! I put all my veggies for my salad in them. I cut up peppers, onions and they last a long time being fresh and crisp. I store my mushrooms in them and they stay so fresh. I highly recommend them. They are better than storage bags.

**Q: Do the boxes become less effective with each use?**
A: I have been using the green bags and I understand your question about them becoming "less effective." The bags DO become less effective after about 20-30 uses. I have just bought the boxes because there was no comment on the reduction of effectiveness. I'm hoping they last even longer because I am tossing out my numerous other containers that have seen better days but did not DO what I am expecting these to do!

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Awesome!!
*by P***Y on January 9, 2022*

I have been using Debbie Meyer’s bags for many, many years. So, when I saw these containers, I immediately ordered them! Just like the bags, these containers keep fresh fruits and veggies at their peak. But, these go a little further, and keep baked goods fresh too!! I have used them almost daily since receiving them, and I am not disappointed! To give you an example, on Monday January 3rd I bought 4 packs of raspberries, 3 pints of blueberries, 2 packs of blackberries, a quart of strawberries, a package of assorted lettuces, and a bag of spinach. As soon as I got home, I repackaged everything into the Debbie Meyer containers. I don’t wash the items until I am ready to use them, but I did place a clean, folded paper towel into the bottom of each container. Moisture causes fresh produce to rot quickly, which is why I added the paper towels. Today is Sunday January 9th, and the few items that are left, look and taste just as good as they did a week ago!! Now, anyone who has ever bought fresh berries, knows that within three days they are starting to rot and end up in the trash. But not if you store them in Debbie’s containers!! I like to eat berries with yogurt or cottage cheese for breakfast or a snack, and normally only buy a couple of containers of fruit at a time. But, with these remarkable containers, you can buy enough to last a week without worrying if they will go bad before you can eat them! I love these containers!! Trust me, the money that you save from not throwing away rotten fruit, will quickly pay for the set of containers! Do not hesitate!! If you cook with fresh ingredients, you definitely need these containers!
