I comfortably "catch" about an ounce, maybe 1.5 oz, just from let down and haven't had an issue with spilling. Do be careful when setting it down onto a table or nightstand since the hard plastic piece is round and can wobble -- spilled milk = tears, especially early on when you're working up to a good milk supply and EVERY drop counts. Overall, this is very comfortable, super easy to clean, and does what it's intended!Note: I bought this after about a month of breastfeeding and did not use to help "protect" my nipples. I do know that when I've dozed off with it on (side-lying breastfeeding -- don't worry, husband was supervising so I didn't roll onto baby!), my nipple had a whole lot of moisture from the milk and the body heat. Take that however you will if you're seeking this to help with your nipple pain in the beginning. With that said -- breastfeeding DOES get better with time! Seek help from a lactation consultant and stay positive. We had to supplement with formula in the beginning because of our struggles, but baby and I eventually got the hang of it. They do make my boobs look funny shaped, very noticeable as the cup part is firm so I only wear them at home. These are not breast pumps, there is no suction to your nipple so they will not express your milk, just catch what leaks out. If I forget I have them on & bend over then there goes all my milk as there are little air vents on the top. Not uncomfortable nor comfortable. These are nice to have on the opposite breast while nursing as sometimes I will let down on both at the same time. I just don’t use them as often as I thought I would. When I do wear them for an hour or so I will collect about an ounce combined.
