Review: It gives an inspiration to play chess
Review: Check Mates by Stewart Foster I found out about this book in a blog post celebrating books in which the main characters are neurodiverse. It took me a few chapters to get in to this but I was pleased I stuck with it because it got really interesting. The main character Felix has ADHD like me, he doesn't have good grades and gets sent to the isolation room (so a bit like detention) at least once a week because he finds it hard to concentrate. His Granda decides to teach him chess to try and improve his concentration. At first Felix thinks that he is rubbish at Chess but when he learns how to defend himself then he realises that it's actually quite fun. My favourite moment in the book was when Felix won the National contest. I felt excited for him and this inspired me to practise my chess more (I got a Chess set for Christmas).
