"Private SNAFU showed soldiers what not to do."
More than just a book about Dr. Seuss' life, this book places many of his most famous works in the context of both his life, and the world. This discusses events the affected him, and shaped the man he became, as well as how he learned, grew and evolved over his lifetime.Near the end it brings up just how many Americans receive a Dr. Seuss book when they are first learning to read, and that "Oh, the Places You'll Go" has become a popular graduation gift. It is increasingly rare to meet someone who is unfamiliar with the work of Dr. Seuss, yet this book discusses the depth that was most likely lost on many of us as children.

Great for book reports
Summer reading required a nonfiction biography. This was a wonderful book for my 3rd grader who has loved Dr. Seuss books since he was really little and this was cool to learn about when some of the classic Seuss books were written and why he wrote them the way he did.

Good content and written at an appropriate instructional level. Middle grades.
I am using this book along with three others in this series with a student who likes to cartoon. We are working on his comprehension skills, so I chose a subject that he likes. We also read Ripley, Disney, Schultz, and we’re wrapping up with Suess.

Great little biography.
We purchased this book for Seuss Day, and my daughter enjoyed the book so much she read it in one sitting. She has since told her father and I several facts she learned from the book.

Nice book for an 8 year old
Love these books. My son, who is 9 has been reading them for a little over a year now and this book is wonderful. I must say that this one is not one of his favorites. He is a history junkey, lol. He so far seems to love the Jackie Robinson, Teddy Roosevelt, Abraham Lincoln, Robert E Lee, What is the world series the best as a 8 and 9 year old.I also read these to him in the evenings and I really enjoy them as a 40 year old father. I have learned so much from them as well. Sometimes I read them before or after my son in order to have an educated discussion with him about the subject of the book. I really also get alot out of them as well.

I love this series!
I wish this series had been around when I was a kid! So far, I have purchased Jim Henson, Dr. Seuss, George Lucas, The Beatles and Walt Disney for my son. These books are a great way for me to introduce the people who have always inspired me, to my own children. I believe that reading about different creative talents throughout history is not only a great way for kids to learn but also a great way to inspire them. We always have great conversations when we discuss the people from these books because we teach each other new things.
