There are drainage holes in each of the three baskets to prevent standing water, mold, mildew. The unit is not sturdy enough to actually use the pump-dispensers for shampoo, conditioner, etc. while they are on the shelf, but it is plenty strong enough to hold those items. Mine stores my shampoos, conditioners, body washes, loofas, scrub brush, shaver, shaving cream. I did add a command hook to the wall of the shower to hook the top shelf lip over, to add a little stability/anchor to the shelf.
