As my grandson grows the difficulty of this book will decrease as his critical thinking skills increase. As another reviewer mentioned each item to be counted starts with the same letter as the number to be counted; such as thirteen thorns, one owl, or six snakes. There is a page at the end to send you back into the book looking for other objects in the illustrations. This is one of those books that an adult will not mind reading over and over.
