I operate mine 100% successfully without a hub. It operates direct to the devices you have. It is an excellent piece of kit which has replaced 5 remote controllers. **Q: Does the base station have a find remote option, i am always losing my remote down the sofa. my dect phone has one, why not the remote.** A: No, it does not have a speaker. The touch screen emits a quiet buzz as haptic feedback only. **Q: Does this work the nest thermostat and sonos and could control my pled on my Mac mini** A: Without the hub thing, it only controls infrared devices. So not Nest Thermostat, I don't know enough about Sonos. **Q: Can you also use with a celing fan ?** A: Can't see why not as if the fan has an original remote then you can teach the Ultimate One the commands for controlling the ceiling fan. I had been eyeing this one up for a while - but after getting a christmas bonus, I decided to bite the bullet and give it a go. I wasn't disappointed with it! I love the fact its rechargable. The software is very usable and well done. Compared to some other devices I have used, it was relatively simple to setup (search for your device based on make/model, and it then sets the correct channel for it). It feels really nice in the hand and as an all in one remote it works really well. I have a Sky set up, DVD and Smart TV, each of these options have been programmed into the remote. Switching between the 3 is simple using the touch screen. It works every time and really simple to use, I could set up other devices like the stereo but for now it’s just used for the TV. This 1 remote replaces 3 and is a welcome addition. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ 4.0 out of 5 stars Take the rough with the smooth! *by R***A on Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 23 December 2015* I think this remote has unfairly got a bad rep... It isn't perfect, but it is a pretty decent remote.I upgraded from a 650 with it's myriad of hardware buttons. Let me cut to the chase - the 650 is a wonderful device plagued by some very annoying issues. It eats through batteries at a rate of knots, any knock or drop causes the batteries to disconnect for a few milliseconds and make it forget which activity you're on. Our 650 after approx 3 years of active duty decided that it would only respond to every second/third button press, so tat presented a nice excuse to "upgrade" to this.So this remote is a *beautiful* device. It looks sleek and feels just right in the hand, the backlighting of the screen and keys can be optimised to your liking and in a darkened room looks lovely. You can add trendy icons to everything such as commands and activities (make your mum a nice "Netflix" button which turns everything on she needs to use it, for example), upload your own pictures as backgrounds and it can support up to 15 different devices which is 10 more than most people will ever need. It does everything every other Harmony remote does in terms of activities etc. and the desktop software is quite good and stable these days. Another plus is Harmony's support has always been excellent - need some dodgy obscure command you found the codes for adding to your remote so you can "region free" your DVD player? Email them and they will add them without question. Brilliant. Oooh, and this one has an inbuilt battery and charging cradle and seems to sustain a small drop without resetting itself. Brilliant! Also new for me is that you can do a myriad of settings tweaks (timings etc.) on the remote itself rather than needing to connect to your computer. A nice touch.Now the negative... The lack of buttons is hard to get used to. With the old harmony remotes you knew how to type in channel 101 without looking and knew that the top left custom button turned on subtitles. Now you have to actually look at the device to do all that. Urgh. The relegation of skip forward/backward to "long presses" of the FFWD/REW buttons is just ugly and the placement of these button on the top of the remote is just so wrong. You are inevitably going to accidentally set off some kind of activity or action when picking up the remote because of the touch sensitive screen, or you can turn on a screen lock where you have to swipe unlock the thing every time you need to use an onscreen button (frustrating as hell!!) However I'm sure most harmony users are used to the havoc of accidentally pressing the "watch tv" button whilst in the crucial moment of a movie/game, so this isn't exactly new - rather an updated challenge! The gestures which are a big selling point on the box are rubbish. In fact, I wish you could turn them off....Overall though, it's a keeper for me. A beautifully crafted remote with a few flaws, but I know we'll be lifelong friends!Edit after a month or so of usage:We bought a new TV and so naturally I've been playing about with inputs on the amp and TV.. One fantastic thing about this remote is that you can make limited changes directly on the remote without having to fire up the Harmony software on the PC, unlike the old 650. You can add, remove and reorder commands to activities and change the inputs that are used on activities. This saved so much time & hassle whilst getting our new telly set up how I like it. One brilliant feature when connecting to the software on the PC is that it remembers what activity you were using before you connected it up - this is a massive improvement on the 650 where you needed to cover over the IR emitter and select your activity after each disconnect from the PC.The remote has proved pretty robust - it's been dropped a few times and has resisted scratches and never forgets which activity we're on.
