Review: ALLIED BLURAY - Having reached my 70's I find it harder and harder to find a recent film that I truly ENJOY. Allright 2016 is "new" to me, and this is a near perfect example of a film that gave pure enjoyment. From the opening scenes through to the extraordinary final one, this held my attention throughout. Great tension, romance, action, splendid CGI/SFX/location work, topped off by 5 star acting (even if Pitt was a bit wooden). I honestly did not know what was going to happen next and even though I admit there are plot holes, this, for me, is the best film seen for ages.Plenty of extras, lovely transfer, good sound and subtitles, and for once I didn't mind the length (2 hrs 7 mins). Forget the complaints about lack of accuracy - this is fiction, and ZEmeckis has told his tale brilliantly! Over egging the cake?? You decide! An excellent price so you can't really go wrong!
Review: Allied - Blu-ray - Sometimes I get a bit stuck rating a film when I’d be inclined to go 3/5 because you can’t do that. So, I’ve opted for using 4 but in truth I’d rate ‘Allied’ a 3/5. It’s a relatively slow burn tale, starring Brad Pitt and Marion Cotillard as two agents brought together in 1942 to execute a mission in Casablanca whilst pretending to be man and wife. After the mission, they marry, have a child and locate to London. All seems well, until he is told his wife is a double agent and he must kill her if she fails to pass a trap set for her. I tend to enjoy the films of Robert Zemeckis more often than not, and although ‘Allied’ for me falls into the category of being something I’d watch again (but not necessarily all that often) it is enjoyable if you’re into WW2 drama. Pitt and Cotillard work well together and the visual effects are good (they tend to be with Zemeckis). It’s maybe a little less substantial than it aspires to be, but I got drawn in enough by the end to care about the main characters. Extras are OK. 67 minutes worth of small featurettes (which you can play as a single extra or individually) covering various aspect such as story conception (the basic story being based on a true story told to writer Steven Knight as a young man), production, visual effects (quite interesting given how much CGI is employed for creating wartime London and other environments). There’s some interesting nuggets of info amongst them. OK film, OK extras.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Tension overcomes some less credible aspects of the story
*by W***E on 17 February 2023*

The story lacks a lot of credibility in several places and for me this does detract from its credibility. None the less the story is good and with lots of tension that builds and builds. So, while not really a credible war story it is a good war story that at least for me, worked well. For a Blu-ray I thought the sound was nothing special but the picture was of course, for a modern film, clear and sharp.
