The tea has a fresh smell to it but it can be bitter as your drink it, but it has a sweet after taste. I suggest you email Prince of Peace using the "Contact Seller" option. Personally, I don't care how long my teas have been aged. I judge them only by their flavor, color, aroma, and aftertaste. I can only tell you that it's a lovely tasting tea...very mellow and smooth, with a beautiful, dark amber/brown color with a hint of red. It steeps quite quickly. We have enjoyed it straight as well as with a few spoons of table cream and a bit of stevia sweetener. There is no aftertaste as there is with some teas, and no waxy looking residue on our clear glass teacups after drinking the tea. (I have found several teas, especially green tea, that leave a very noticeable film on our teacups. I imagine if they leave that kind of a film/stain on glass, they must do the same to our teeth.
