The hook has a tip that prevents cutting into the gut-sack, and I love how the rubber handle lets blood be easily rinsed away and is still grippy when wet! I expect that this axe will last for my lifetime, and that I'll be able to pass it on to future generations. If you hunt deer-size or larger game, you should definitely get one of these.

**Q: Is it a good throwing competition axe**
A: I don't believe it would be, it is made to field dress deer etc. I don't believe the balance is right for a throwing axe. Estwing makes other axes that would be better for that purpose.

A: With sheath it's around 2-3lbs.

**Q: What color is the sheath?**
A: Mine came with a black sheath.

**Q: Does it come with a black and orange stitching sheath?**
A: Mine is just black no orange stitching

Bought this to support an American Company who makes in the USA. The protective cover is well crafted and solid. The other extra included in the purchase was the sharpening stone. Well worth the money paid for the product. This is for our new farm and it very well built. I have not tried it yet but cannot wait to.
