It is a very fine sand, but when I take them off there is sand left on the surface where I removed them. This will affect the weight of them eventually. Very nice weights, I am using them for my ankles at the time and they are very easy to put on and take off. The fit is good since it has a velcro strap that secures them. Although I am thin and they do slide down my leg to rest on the top of the ankle. I have not used them on my wrists. The material feels durable so we will see how they hold up.
