Q: Sportspal 14p - i understand it will fit in the 38" center. i also want to put it in the bow where it narrows from 36 to 34 - a trapezoid, ok?

Had to do that with mine. I very carefully cut one side down and they fir good.

Thank you for your question! The telescoping tubes do not lock down once installed. However, once sitting on the seat it does help keep the tubes in place when weight is applied. If you wish to lock the tubes down at the set width, you can do this by simply drilling a small hole on each of the center tubes and installing a small self-tapping set screw.
