You definitely want to use it first, before washing your hair. It lathers extremely well, and you really do not need much of it. Far less than you'd use of shampoo for example, otherwise you'll still get that faint smell of vinegar afterwards.I've been using it once a week with a scalp massaging brush, left in for around five minutes.
