A: yes

**Q: will this accept a 1/4" - 20 machine screw or is it really 6mm??**
A: Will accept !4-20 screw.

**Q: is this the best way to make a long curtian rod out of wood?**
A: I would think not. You screw these into a piece of wood and they have threads on the inside for securing a screw. We used them to secure cabinets to the floor in our campervan.
