Size:7 inches The Eclipse 7" Quick Release Vise features a front mounted lever which disengages the vise screw to permit rapid opening and closing of the vise, meaning that you can quickly adjust the opening of the vise to either release or clamp a piece you’re working on. It is fitted with an adjustable front stop (dog) that gives additional clamping facility when used with a bench stop, to provide a normal vise and a tail vise in one tool. To increase safety, the fused tommy bar will bend before the vise can become over-stressed. This vise features heavy cast iron and steel construction; a 7.87" maximum opening; 3/4" diameter guide rods and main screw; and 7" wide x 3" deep jaw faces predrilled for mounting wood jaw cushions, plus 2 predrilled holes and 2 cast tabs for mounting screws (screws not included). This vise is well constructed and will provide years of trouble-free service.

High Qualilty Vise with Some MInor Issues
I'm a professional woodworker and I bought this for my second workbench. I already have two 35 year old Wilton vises with quick release features that still work perfectly. As I understand it this is a reproduction of the old Record No. 52 vise. It arrived undamaged from Amazon, the exterior box could have used more padding but it's ok. The action is smooth and is generally of high quality fabrication. The fast release mechanism works easily and the guide rods move without much friction and no binding. Everything is heavy duty and it should last a lifetime.I knocked it down one star for the following deficiencies (from a woodworker's point of view):1) The Lead Screw is pitted from chatter marks made during machining (see photo closeup). This is probably due to vibration during milling and also from using a dull cutting tool edge. Really dumb error on the machinist's part.2) The Lead Screw is not of Acme Thread quality (see photo of small section of an Acme Thread) like my old Wilton vises, which are very slow to wear out. However, I think this screw will also last a long time as the pitting does not affect the screw smoothness of movement.3) The movable end stop for your wood item being worked does not recess all the way into the moving face plate so that you cannot lay a board down flush on the bench top and over the vise. So I had to hacksaw it off flush, about 1/4 inch taken off.4) The face plates are designed to protrude above the bench top about 2.0 inches so you have to put a thick spacer block between the underside of the bench and the top of the mount casting. My spacer was about 1.75 thick for the thickness of my top. I think this was designed by a metal worker not a woodworker where the piece being held never lays flush on the bench top.I looked at a lot of vises and most were wimpy or just cheap. I even rejected Wilton who have really downgraded their vises from when I bought several decades ago. The woodworking stores were the worst, selling cheap hobbyist stuff that will be very disappointing in a short year or two. They should be ashamed.Overall this is one of the best vises in this price range for the 10" size and will work fine in a heavy use woodshop bench environment. I have included several photos as it is hard to really see the vise in the sales ad photos.

Over done "Toe-In" - Definitely not like the old Record Vice
Update of the last update- I corrected the "toe-in" by planing the offending side of my liner. Now that I have had time to use it, the vise works fine. I just hope it lasts as long as my Record 52-1/2.Update- After fixing the plate (see below) I installed the vise and the toe-in was almost 1/4". Yes, it was over 3/16" in less than 4 inches. See the pictures below.Original post- Poor quality, thin, cheap metal. I missed the return window because I was making a workbench for this vice and got delayed on the bench. When I went to install it today, while wiping the shipping oil off, I noticed that the plate in the picture was bent. There was no damage to the box, so this had to come from the factory this way. I have an old Record vice also and the same plate on that one is twice a thick (no way is it going to bend). Cheap stamped metal is not what should be on this vice! The guide rails are loose, able to move around and as you can see in the pictures they could come completely out.Looking at the pictures- the plate should be straight across and even with the tri-square, but it is out of line further than the retaining washer. If they would have put a better piece of metal in, I would have given it a 4-star rating. By trying to save at most five cents, they introduced a major structural flaw. At $144.00 they could/should afford to add a slightly thicker plate. To the manufacturer: If you are going to copy a classic, the least you could do is copy the basic structural parts, so it functions correctly. There is a reason they made things the way they did. They didn't cut corners on the certain things for a reason- neither should you.

Wonderful addition to my shop.
I love this vice. Perfect in every way. I have no idea how I survived without it. I researched vices for month! I was willing to spend $300. However looking at Paul Sellers and his vice this is a lot like the old Records. Well it didn't disappoint. You will need to download the instructions to install as there weren't any in the box, but is it pretty straight forward.

Great Price, Quality Tool
So far so good. I've used it over the last 2 weeks while remodeling and a few woodworking projects. It is extremely stable and has held very well.It arrived quickly bagged and boxed in its original packaging. It came pre-greased and well oiled. It required a little bit of cleaning, but that was expected. If I had any complaints, it would be that it didn't include any mounting instructions/options. It obviously depends on the bench that it will be installed on, but some suggested mounting positions would be nice.Great price for a quality tool.

Check who is responsible for delivery
I've had this vice now for a few years and it works fine with no issues. I don't think it's as smooth as the old originals that it's based on and it isn't as well finished but it is solid and heavy in the right places. It was expensive but I believe it's reasonable value for money. The reason it gets two stars is for the delivery. it was just dumped on my door step in the rain in full view from the road. As I said it's an expensive valuable item and according to the courier that delivered it "it was signed for" (IT WASN'T, at least not on the level, maybe by the driver) so I probably would have been at a loss if it had been stolen. And Amazon doesn't make it easy to make a complaint if something has been "signed for" delivered. Amazon needs to improve its delivery partner in this case.

and it's been great, it's extremely heavy and once you make some ...
this is my first vice, used on a nicholson style 8 x 4 foot beast of a bench, and it's been great, it's extremely heavy and once you make some jaws for it with hardwood, you can't go wrong, the only thing I changed was to make a wooden dog to replace the metal one, and re oiled it with white lithium grease, the quick release worked well from the moment I started using it. I bought this one in the end because it was cheaper than buying a second hand vintage record vice and just as good quality.

Good quality
Bought this for my son. He was very happy, heavy good quality vice. Well oiled when arrived. I would recommend this instead of a little cheaper. Will last a lifetime in my opinion.Son brought it into school for his bench he is making for his leaving cert to fit it n measure. The teacher also agreed it's a great piece of kit

Lovely vice. Well made. No wobble in the jaws. Came nicely greased/oiled. Used for one of Paul Sellers "beefy" workbenches.

Great
Great vice seems well made and operates smoothly. Fitting was simple enough (the only awkward part is dealing with the bulk of the item).
