Review: Easy to use! - Light weight and easy to dig the holes. Cleans up well after use. Review: New Best Friend: Radius Garden 22911 Root Slayer Drain Spade XL - The Radius Garden 22911 Root Slayer Drain Spade XL is awesome. I've used it to clear roots from a wooden fence line and make a slot, so I can install a rhizome barrier to keep the neighbor's scrub oak out . On the really large roots I used a sawsall, but on the smaller roots the size of large carrots, it slices right through them. I've used it to find buried irrigation tubing. I've used it dig around fence posts to get a fence section out. It cuts through sod and dirt easier than a regular shovel. So glad I ran across this tool. ## Features - Narrow Drain Spade for Trenching and Drainage Work: Designed with a long, narrow blade that makes it easier to dig trenches, clean drainage ditches, install irrigation lines, and work in tight soil channels where wider shovels are less effective. - Inverted V Cutting Tip with Serrated Edge: The sharpened V-shaped blade tip combined with aggressive root-cutting teeth helps penetrate compact soil and slice through stubborn roots, making trenching and root removal more efficient. - Heavy-Duty Carbon Steel Blade Construction: Built with a powder-coated carbon steel blade designed for durability and corrosion resistance during demanding digging tasks in garden beds, landscaping projects, and yard work. - Reinforced Fiberglass Shaft for Strength: The extended shaft features a fiberglass construction paired with a non-latex grip designed to provide stability, leverage, and improved control while digging. - Long Blade for Deep Digging Efficiency: Blade measures approximately 8.5 x 16 inches, while the full shovel length is about 57.5 inches, giving gardeners and landscapers strong soil penetration and reach for trenching and drainage projects. ## Technical Specifications | Specification | Value | |---------------|-------| | ASIN | B07DLKBBXB | | Best Sellers Rank | #74,792 in Patio, Lawn & Garden ( See Top 100 in Patio, Lawn & Garden ) #62 in Gardening Spades | | Blade Material | Carbon Steel | | Brand | Root Slayer | | Brand Name | Root Slayer | | Color | Red | | Customer Reviews | 4.2 out of 5 stars 66 Reviews | | Gauge | 13 | | Global Trade Identification Number | 00817085017065 | | Grip Type | Ergonomic | | Handle Material | Fiberglass | | Item Dimensions | 58 x 2.25 x 8.25 inches | | Item Type Name | Drain Spade XL | | Item Weight | 5.5 pounds | | Item dimensions L x W x H | 58 x 2.25 x 8.25 inches | | Manufacturer | Radius Garden | | Manufacturer Part Number | 22911 | | Manufacturer Warranty Description | Lifetime | | Material | Metal | | Material Type | Metal | | Model Number | 22911 | | Style | Drain Spade XL | | Style Name | Drain Spade XL | | UPC | 817085017065 | ## Product Details - **Blade Material:** Carbon Steel - **Brand:** Root Slayer - **Color:** Red - **Grip Type:** Ergonomic - **Handle Material:** Fiberglass - **Item Weight:** 5.5 pounds - **Item dimensions L x W x H:** 58 x 2.25 x 8.25 inches - **Material:** Metal - **Style:** Drain Spade XL - **UPC:** 817085017065 ## Images ![Radius Garden Root Slayer Drain Spade XL - Image 1](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/51HvJy2ZfuL.jpg) ![Radius Garden Root Slayer Drain Spade XL - Image 2](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/51os8U84bFL.jpg) ![Radius Garden Root Slayer Drain Spade XL - Image 3](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/51XATJwahQL.jpg) ![Radius Garden Root Slayer Drain Spade XL - Image 4](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/71Q3-iJRLbL.jpg) ![Radius Garden Root Slayer Drain Spade XL - Image 5](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/71vroCEU6KL.jpg) ## Available Options This product comes in different **Style** options. ## Questions & Answers **Q: Is the shovel part wider than the trench spay?** A: Rick, Thank you for your question. The trench spade is 4" wide. the Drains Spade is 6" at the top and tapers down to 3.5" Radius Garden/American Lawn Mower Company **Q: So confusing, anyone know which one would be best for cutting tree roots less than 2inches in diameter from the lawn surface?** A: All Radius Garden Root Slayer implements (including "Nomad") are excellent for cutting any roots less than 2 inches in diameter from the lawn surface. A finesse cut can be accomplished by running the saw edges against the side of the root until the cut is made. The size, weight, and strength of the "facilitator" of the implement are important factors in achieving the desired result. The RG 22;811 should work very well in sensible hands. ## Customer Reviews ### āāāāā Easy to use! *by J***E on October 20, 2026* Light weight and easy to dig the holes.
