Varnish Mediums protect the painting surface from the environment and protect the pigments from ultraviolet light. Additionally, varnishes can be used to change or unify a painting’s surface sheen. Liquitex Archival Permanent Varnish Finishing Medium is a low-odor, permanent and durable medium with water-based technology, translucent when wet, clear when dry. Between gloss and matte.... Doesn't reflect light like porcelain as gloss does, nor does it reduce contrast/ dull the painting like matte varnish. I do apply a coat of gloss acrylic medium (Monte Marte) as a buffer layer on top of painting before varnishing for a even finish for varnish to sit on. The camlin spray varnish (only other acrylic varnish I could find in India) was terrible, tested it on a rough painting first and decided against it.... Poor finish and uneven coating. Wide, soft brush and careful application has better control than toxic sprays. Protecting your paintings are a must and this one does the job. It's liquitex, so didn't disappoint. Nice as expected and used on both Paper and Canvas. Tried for first time and realized you Must Varnish, it gives a nice shine to the Painting, Protects it from Dust and colors looks more vibrant.
