This is the best account of the samurai mind, body and daily life that I’ve ever read and I’ve read an awful lot of them over years. The research appears impeccable, the choice of subject areas is made well and the writing is well-pitched being neither too academic or colloquial, a line few authors in this field manage. The text is well-supported by nice photos, diagrams and information boxes where more detail is either required or a pleasing tangent is taken. I’ve found myself re-examining other classic samurai texts -Hagakure, Gorinnosho, Heiho Kadensho - in the light of what the author has presented here.I heartily recommend this book as kt’s likely to be the only book you need on the samurai, but of course you’re going to buy and read others too!

Beautifully presented, im a collector of Haynes military manuals and bought this as a gift for my Dad, a must for the Samurai enthusiast.
