Hi, I dont see a hole in the handle where I could string this tool up, but I would be afraid to toss it in a drawer, does it come with protector cover

It doesn't come with a whole in the handle, however it is a fantastic tool...I keep mine in a pencil case that I bought at walmart...it holds it perfectly...plastic case with a zipper. Makes beautiful cuts on breads, but also use it in pasta making. I suppose you could just fashion a cover out of sturdy cardboard. Definitely something to NOT "just toss in a drawer".

How do you keep the blade from coming off?

You bend the blade, which is quite flexible, between your thumb and index finger and then slide the handle into the cutouts on the blade. The blade's tension holds the handle in place securely. The lame comes with instructions showing how to do this. It's quite easy.

What kind of replacement blades does it take, and where are they available?

It uses the old doubled edged blades. You can find those easily in any drugstore: Walgreens, CVS, Rite-Aid, etc. FYI, this bread lame comes ready to use with a few blades already!
