Does a great job; has replaced my broom
This vacuum does all I intended it to. I'm VERY pleased with it. I purchased my first one a few weeks ago. It was for my daughter who was going off to college and would be sharing an apartment with 3 other girls. I did not want to purchase an expensive vacuum. I saw this Dirt Devil for under $20 and decided to give it a try. I tested the vacuum out at home and ended up loving it for little jobs around the house. So I bought myself one.First of all, this will NOT do the job of a full size and full powered vacuum but then again, I don't think that is it's purpose. I purchased this mainly to use in my laundry room and kitchen in place of a broom and dustpan. I keep my cat's litterbox in the laundry room and she manages to track litter from that room and in to the hallway. I would constantly sweep up but it seemed I never got ALL the litter up and was always stepping on some leftover piece. The kitchen was also a room with lots of "stuff" on it's floor. Leaves from outside, crumbs, etc. I also felt I missed things. Most likely, the broom just didn't catch everything and debris would be left on the floor. This vacuum works great for those areas. The vacuum is very lightweight (about 1-2 lbs.) and easy to carry around. It's a lot better than pulling out the Dyson vacuum which is big and heavy. I use the Dirt Devil every day in the laundry room and kitchen. One added bonus (for me anyhow) is that I can clean my floor mats and rugs with this thing too. The Dyson sucked those rugs right up and I'd end up unraveling rug strings from the beater bar!So to sum it up, this Dirt Devil vacuums my throw rugs, it cleans the tile floors great (it gets up all those annoying bits of litter) and it even works well on our carpet. Admittedly, the Dyson does a much better job on carpet and is a lot more powerful, but for little jobs when you don't want to lug out a heavy, bulky, full sized vacuum, this really does the job well. For costing less than $20 and for using it every day, I love this little vacuum. It is also very easy to clean. When I take out the filter cup I just wipe it with a used dryer sheet and it takes all the lint off. Bigger things that get picked up like the litter pieces just get dumped from the container. I have not tried it as a hand held dust buster type vacuum but I'm sure it would work just as well since it works great as an upright. And lastly, my daughter also loves the vacuum. Cleans up her bathroom floor and even picks up stuff from the shag carpet that is in her bedroom.

My favorite cleaning tool!
I really love this little guy, and use it almost daily. Of course, it doesn't replace a real vacuum cleaner, which I still use about once a week. However, this works great on my hardwood floors. I have 2 cats, so there's always hair and litter particles everywhere, but this quickly and easily fixes that! It's not the best on carpet, since there's no brush like in a real vacuum. But I still use it on my couch as the fur shows there, and it works almost as well as the vacuum there. I love that it's light and quieter than a big vacuum, and doesn't hurt my back. (Interestingly, even though it's a lot quieter, it scares one of my cats much more - she will even let me vacuum her sometimes, but don't come near with that new dust buster!) The suction isn't as strong as a vacuum of course, but that makes cleaning my door mats easier as they don't get sucked into the machine. I like that it has a cord, because it doesn't run out of power and get weak like battery powered ones. The cord could be a little longer, but then again there would be more bulk and more cord to fumble around with, so I'm really not complaining. The directions said it's best to empty the canister with each use (easy to do), but I find that's not at all necessary, perhaps because I'm just touching up smaller areas. This tool feels more expensive than it is, and I think the price is incredible. I plan to give it as a gift for housewarming, or new pet owners, or off to college. I truly love this gadget and if anything ever happens to it I would replace it with the exact same one. I think you would be disappointed if you were looking for a real vacuum cleaner, but if you're looking for a short-cut tool that you'll reach for daily, give this little thing a shot!

More than you expect for the price
I bought this little vacuum 2 years ago when I was preparing for knee replacement surgery and needed to prepare for weeks of recovery but still keep the house tidy. (I can't stand dirt and disorder.) I was actually surprised at how well it worked. I had expected to use it only until I could handle my big vacuum, then give this to the goodwill. However, it worked well enough to change my mind.Pros: It picked up the visible dirt well enough that I continued using it well after the surgery; it is easy enough to use that I could vacuum with walker or cane--one hand is enough, and no heavy tank to pull.Cons: It did not fit together very easily so I never used it as a handheld or used the crevice tool, afraid I couldn't reassemble. The actual pickup under that cute little floor glide is only an inch wide so the pickup area is narrower than the glide. That means you make more pushes back and forth to cover the floor. The cup empties easily at first, but after a while you need to stick your fingers inside it to get out hair and lint that tend to clog up the entry point. The filter needs to be cleaned off with something like a brush followed by a damp paper tower every couple of months as replacement filters don't seem to be available. Only takes a few minutes, though.Overall: Obviously not equal to a more expensive machine, but better than expected. I continued using for mid-week pickups. Lately it seems to be losing its oomph and is missing more than it picks up, so I think it has served its purpose. For a bottom of the market vacuum, I am impressed. I am about to buy another, maybe the $45 one. The big, heavy, very efficient vacuum stays on the main floor most of the time and I use this one on the bedroom level, bringing up the heavy one only once every month or 6 weeks for deep cleaning. I find that this is good for surface cleaning of little bits of thing like hair, loose dirt, spilled powder, etc. , but you do need to get to the stuff before it gets caught up in the carpet (we have a low-pile and this vacuum does ok).
