A Must Read for Any Woman That Wants or Needs to Speak!
Laden with tips, tricks, and advice, How to Own the room is the female speaker's handbook that we have all been waiting for. Leveraging the stories of some of the most famous speakers in the world, Viv shares practical and inspirational tools, and insights to help women Own the Room when they speak. From how to organize your thoughts, to the ever-elusive "presence", to pace of speech, Viv covers important communications topics and so much more. I would highly recommend her book. If you are looking for great listening material her podcast by the same name is great as well. Thank you, Viv, for sharing your insights. So many women will be so much better for it!

Every woman should read this book
Viv Groskop brings her wit and wisdom to the subject of women bringing the voice and thoughts they have to the world. Full of great insights on what to do and what not to do, but most importantly that we should do it, even if it terrifies us, and that we don’t need to be a brilliant speaker - we just need to have something to say.

Has a few interesting points but belabors unhelpful and judgmental excuses
In the first portion of this book Groskop gave an example of a male response to a hypothetical situation, then, for pages, she droned on to justify her use of a male example in a book about women speaking. It was irritating, say it once and move on! Most women reading this book will be intelligent enough to know that a man can sometimes serve as a role model. Her focus on a variety of well-known female speakers was an interesting approach, and I found the pages on Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie helpful. I would have enjoyed reading even more detail about Michelle Obama's speaking style. However Groskop's nasty comments about women she doesn't respect, such as Melanie trump "lumbering" over to Obama with a gift, shows her as someone who eagerly throws other women under the bus. And, regarding her pages of excuses for Hillary Clinton not winning the election--I couldn't see how that served to help me improve my own speaking presence. I didn't buy this book to give Groskop a political soapbox. There were some interesting points in this book, but mostly I found it irritating and not worth my time.

Powerful! Not just how to speak, but also how to develop the courage and self confidence to speak.
Terrific book. I've ordered copies for several of my colleagues.

Misleading Title
I purchased this book thinking it would assist me on how to be a stronger speaker. While the author did give a few tips and examples here and there, it was more focused on her political views. Yes, Michelle Obama has grown into an amazing speaker over the years, but I find it unnecessary to put down other speakers who are not of the same political party. If I came into this book with the mindset that it was a comparison of the two major political parties, I would have been fine, but why even go there when we are supposed to be uplifting each other?
