You do need to solder the header onto the board. If you have never soldered before you should buy a kit with soldering gun and solder (here is a basic one: https://smile.amazon.com/LDK-Soldering-Adjustable-Temperature-Replacement/dp/B083L8BXRC/ref=sr_1_12?dchild=1&keywords=soldering+iron+kit&qid=1586384692&sr=8-12).It works good at a reasonable price.

Soldered it together, hooked it up, light comes on, and... NOTHING!!!

Currently using these RC522 sensors with an ECP8266 NodeMCU unit, programming using the Arduino IDE. 1st unit worked well and functioned with all the cards/fobs provided. 2nd unit would not read cards. Power LED activates on the sensor but I cant get any readings back from it. Ran through some tests online as to which led me to believe that its a dud. Would be a great buy if both functioned.
