Works like any appliance filled with hot oil!
Have been using this fryer for months. It's great! That said, yes, most everything the one, two, and three-star raters said is true.It get's hot. Yes, it's "cool touch" when compared to the original metal Fry Daddy. If you touched those, you got burned. If you touch this, it's just hot. But what do you expect...it's 375 degrees. It doesn't get hot enough. Yes, it only goes to 375 degree. I'm guessing there's liability issues at play and small appliance manufactures probably don't want to market a home fryer that's over 400 degrees for fear of being sued when someone burns their house down. If you put a truckload of fries in there, you have two choices: fries that are just done, or greasy crispy fries. I think this has to do with dropping too many frozen fries at once dropping the temperature. I opt for plan B, I fry them in smaller batches so I can have them crispy without soaking up too much grease. I think it's safe to say the same is true of every other home fryer. The door is spring loaded. Yes, you will want to release the lid with one hand and ease the lid up with the other. It generates steam. Sure enough, it's hot and when you drop a basket filled with moisture-heavy goodies it's going to produce a lot of steam. Keep you hands away!It holds oil, it gets hot, it cooks stuff. All-in-all a considerable improvement over the old Fry Daddy. (Or putting an open pot of oil on the stove!) I like the basket, the lid, and ability to clean it. I feel much more comfortable loading the basket, putting it in, closing the lid, and then lowering the basket into the oil than I did chucking things into my old Fry Daddy and hoping to not get splashed or scalded. But please, make no mistake, it's a FRYER. I think it's considerably safer than the old Fry Daddy but you still need to be careful.

Quick, easy and safe -- Cooldaddy Cool-touch
I was a little worried after I ordered because I happened to see some negative reviews about the temperature not getting hot enough. We made some chicken wings and french fries the first time tonight, and everything worked fantastic! After we put in the oil and turned it on, it heated up quick and was ready to go. We did the chicken first, then made up a batch of fries and everything was perfect! I love the design, how it's made to be easy to clean, and how it protects you from spatter or getting burned if you touch it. I like how you can raise and lower the basket in the hot oil with the lid closed. I also really like the magnetic power cord. I couldn't really see the food through the window after it got fogged up, but it was easy to open the lid to check on it. You just need to keep a hand over the lid when you push the button so it doesn't pop up too fast. This was a very happy experience for us!

Few down falls but over all great buy.
I ordered this because my husband and I love wings and French fries. The price was good and we had received a gift card for Christmas so we decided to order it. When it came we where excited to try it. It works great but the spring that opens and closes the lid comes off very easily so you have to be gentle with it. I also noticed if your cooking with it and you hit the button the top flings open very fast and it can splash oil so I always make sure my hand is on the lid before pushing the button to release the lid so I can control how fast it goes up. I was nervous about some reviews about it having a funny smell to it when you first use it and it kinda did at first along with some smoke but after about a minute or so that all stopped and it wasn't even that bad. The window on top that I thought was a nice feature ended up being pointless because it gets so hot the window fogs up and gets covered in oil so you can't really see threw it anyway. However I absolutely LOVE the fact that you can lower and rise the basket without opening the lid making it was safer then some of the other ones because you can let the oil settle and drain off the food before opening the lid. Over all a good buy and I would recommend it to anyone. We been using it for awhile now and we love it.

Amazing
I love this deep fryer. It is everything I was looking for in a home deep fryer. It works great. I deep fry french fries and chicken in it all the time. I love the way you can lower the basket in to the oil with the lid closed, and you can also raise the basket out of the oil with the lid closed as well. This helps a lot in preventing splatters. It holds 8 cups of oil which is plenty. I use peanut oil. My only complaint would be that the viewing window is kinda useless. It fogs over right away so you cant see anything, but I just open the lid slightly when the food is frying to peek in which works. It is very easy to clean as well. The lid and frying bucket you just soak in warm soapy water, and the frying basket can go in the dishwasher and you can just wipe down the outside of the fryer with a damp paper towel. I love this deep fryer and would easily make this purchase again or refer a friend to this fryer.

Even better than I hoped--the five times it worked
I read many reviews for this and similar products, before selecting this one. The price was right for something I won't use too often, and I liked the size and appearance very much. The ability to raise and lower the basket with the lid was closed seemed like a really good idea, and it is. So much less mess than using a pot on the stove! In fact, cleanup overall is really a breeze—much better than I expected. Really well designed. I was concerned about the temperature after reading some of the reviews, but I must say, it seems perfect to me. On my first use, I added two quarts of oil and fried two batches of chicken at 375. It came out just right, with almost no grease draining on to paper towels. Then I poured the oil off, and had almost two quarts coming out. So I'm very satisfied, and if this little fryer gives me results this good a few times a year, I'll feel like I got a huge bargain.Update: well, it gave me good results the five times I used it and then just stopped. In the middle of using it. Just stopped. NOT a bargain after all!
