Rack Also Makes Great Vertical Storage for Ladders
First off, thanks for the reviews and Q&A's since the measurement information on Amazon.com was not great. That said, I purchased this rack to store 2 ladders--1 stepladder and 1 extension ladder. My garage has low clearance. The ceiling is 82" at the lowest point. Further, I was tired of the ladders laying on the floor. This bike stand was the PERFECT solution. In fact, I could have stored 4 ladders on this unit. The unit is very sturdy and attractive. It is designed to lean back ever so slightly, which allow the ladders to sit steadily on the rack. Not only are my ladders off the floor, there is plenty of room underneath for more a efficient use of space. As for the assembly instructions, the other reviewers have already mentioned that the instructions are quite bad. The diagram is nearly useless. As others have advised, look at the box cover for guidance, and don't be surprised if you have to redo and reverse parts once or twice. One minor (slightly annoying) issue. One of the rubber stopper/bumpers does not slide on. There was no problem with other three. By switching the bumpers around, I figured out that one of the perpendicular bars is slightly larger than the other three. Like I said, annoying, but certainly not life-threatening! I may call Amazon for a replacement. As for storing bikes, maybe one day I'll purchase another for that purpose. In the meanwhile, I'm loving my very stylish ladder rack! Makes my garage look very stylish.

Great stand for our trusty steeds
Have a set of road bikes and wanted to get them up off the floor and out of the way. Great solution for us. Easy to put up. Stable WITHOUT having to attach it to any wall for anchoring or to floor or ceiling. Exactly what we were looking for as we didn't want to put any holes in our walls. Construction good, holds two bikes well. Each arm holding the top tube is individually adjustable, nice for fitting as each bike has a different set-up / top tube angle. No clamps hold bike in place but the plastic cradles on the arms seem sufficient. Love the ease of pulling my bike down and then being able to "put it away" somewhere other than the floor.I would recommend to a friend if they were looking for an out of the box, clean solution with a reasonable price.

Room for improvement but sturdy and functional
I am using this in an apartment to get bikes off the floor so they take up less space. The brackets the bikes rest on could be improved and there are other details that could be improved, but the rack is still functional. The brackets are designed to slide into place from the front and then you rotate them clockwise to seat them on the bar. The problem is that there is no anti-rotation feature (other than really cranking them on tight) and holding the height adjustment also depends on a tight clamp. The good news is that the hand screw can be tightened enough to dimple the metal a little which doe give me some confidence that they won't slip. It would be better if the metal curled around the bar a little at the front for anti-rotation but I feel the bikes I have on the rack now are secure. I have placed two bikes at the top of the rack using 3 brackets. Brackets are placed at the top of the seat-post to rear wheel triangle and under the top sloping crossbar. I could potentially have placed both bikes on only two brackets, but the bikes I have seem to sit better with the front wheel a little lower than the back. The first bike is placed as close to the uprights as it can go and the second one, facing the opposite direction, is about 3/4 of the way out on the brackets. My third bike is a long wheel base recumbent and there is room for it directly under the other bikes but resting on the floor. Depending on the bikes you have this rack could potentially handle four bikes, but it would be very helpful in that case to be able to get spare V-blocks. Other comments: The fit between the top and bottom half of the rack is not as tight as it should be so the top half leans forward slightly after there is a load on it. Depending on your floors you may find it necessary to place the front feet on a thin chunk of wood or metal to spread out the load and help with leveling (especially on carpet).

Great rack for apartments. EXACTLY the same as the Thule Universal Bike Stacker, but cheaper.
I live is a fairly small apartment so having 2 bikes can be a hassle. This rack fits nicely in the corner and easily hold my road bike and full suspension mountain bike, keeping them out of the way. The rack is quite sturdy and was very easy to assemble. It took me about 15 minutes to get it all together. The plastic holders on the arms are hard plastic, and I was a little concerned about them. I do wish they were a soft rubber or something with more give. If you're not carful they could scratch. On the rear arm for my road bike I wrapped it with and old inner tube instead, since the holder pinched the shift cable. I also had to be a bit creative on placement of the arms on my full suspension bike, since the front arm would not fit under the top bar, so I moved the front arm down below the bottom bar, problem solved.Sportback is a subsidiary of Thule, so this rack is EXACTLY the same as the Thule Universal Bike Stacker. The only difference is the sticker at the top that says SportRack and of course the price. This rack is about $50 cheaper for EXACTLY the same rack. Did I mention it's EXACTLY the same rack as the Thule.

It is good and sturdy in our apartment on a carpeted floor
We have two mountain bikes on this bike stand. It is good and sturdy in our apartment on a carpeted floor. It also looks cool and saves space. I recommend for an apartment or house. It was easy enough to put together. I put it together by myself, but in hindsight I think it would have went much smoother and faster with help. I suggest 2 people working together to assemble the bike stand. The quality is worth the cost. I would recommend this item to anyone looking for a quality bike stand.

Fantastic Rack. easy to set up
Fantastic Rack. easy to set up, and looks good. I really like the stand, especially that I have the bikes out of the way in the garage now.
