Finally, a design that works!
This works. Got a chance to use it, and it works on those pesky pistachios that are super tight. As long as a tiny crack is open, the little spike fits in, and then the tools' leverage pops them open. I recommend cupping the business end of the tool as the tough ones tend to go flying, but for the most part, they don't, and you have the nut ready.

Easy to use pistachio opener
This opener works very well at opening pistachios that have a shell that is only slightly open. It saves you from finger pain and broken fingernails.

If you follow the instructions from the Amazon site and on the packaging, works 100% of the time.

It works but with significant caveats. More like 3.5-star
The positive: It actually works.The not so negative: It takes time - you have to carefully align the existing crack with the opener.The somewhat negative: It does not work when a pistachio does not have any crack to begin with.The negative: It is really expensive for what it does.

My Nails are Safe Now!!!!
I cannot believe how amazing this Pistachio Nut Opener is! I used to ruin my nails opening Pistachios, but never again when i have this! i am in love with it! Actually, this is my 2nd one i bought; My mother took mine and never returned it. It is perfect for the elderly! I will have to hide it from my sister or i will have to buy a 3rd one.

ease of use
This object is too flimsy to deal withdifficult pistachio nuts. It won't work on really difficult. nuts. I wouldn't tecommend this item.

Genius design! Easy to use. Watch the short video in the description and you're set. I tried to use a butter knife and almost slashed my finger off... this is safer and more efficient. Will pay for itself in one serving of closed pistachios that won't get wasted!

MADE OF CHEAP POT METAL AND BADLY RUSTING IN UNDER FOUR MONTHS
UPDATED REVIEW (JUNE 6, 2020) - 1 STAR:So sad. I bought this in February 2020. It's now June 2020, and this nifty tool is completely covered with rust spots. My hand reeks of rust after using it. Should be made of a food-grade metal like stainless steel - especially for the price!Granted, I keep it in the open air, on top of the pistachio jar, rather than, say, shrink wrapped in between uses. But I do wash it to get the salt off. Not once have I had it outdoors.In any case, it's rusting very quickly, and soon it'll just be trash.A fellow reviewer mentioned that other/better brands of pistachio openers are available (though apparently not on Amazon), so I'll be looking into that.I'm disappointed in the poor material used to make this product. A shame since I was quite happy with the function, but this but has proven to be one of my all-time most worthless purchases.ORIGINAL REVIEW (FEB 19, 2020) - 5 STARS:When I received this tool, it was slightly bent to one side, but fortunately it was easy to bend into place. At first I used it like a pry tool to try to remove one side of the shell, which flung the nut pieces in several directions across the room. Then I realized you can put the prong in sideways and then turn it in a more controlled manner to just crack the opening a little more until it opens easily. I have not flung any nut pieces since. This little tool is fantastic. No more sore fingers, yippee!My only gripe is that it seems like it's made of pot metal, not stainless steel. Whatever it is, the material could be more robust.
