What drive is in the casing?

It's an OEM drive, in my case it identifies itself as WDC WD20SMRW-59YNDS0. Couldn't find anything online when I searched, but it's a 5400rpm drive so definitely the "black" here is pure marketing. As are performances, I assume it has a bit of cache as I could reach the claimed speeds on a drive benchmark test, but in normal use speeds are just on par with any external 5400rpm disk.

Is there any physical difference between the pc and xbox versions? is it faster and more reliable than the wd my book?

The 12TB Game Drive is faster than most external drives. Using it on a USB3.0 port I get 200 to 250MB/s. If you only get 80MB/s something is wrong, or you have it in a USB2 port. Most other external drives only achieve about 100MB/s.
