It is in every way a VERY nice "decoration" lamp - don't be swayed by all the naysayers.
Don't listen to all the naysayers who say;"smaller than expected""too dim - barely a nightlight""flimsy""cheap"......The product description tells you 100% of what you are getting.5"x5"x11" in size... I would not "expect" something 24 inches tall, when it told me the dimensions in precise detail.Mine measure EXACTLY 5x5x11. So I got EXACTLY what I was expecting.Regarding "too dim"... again, product DESCRIPTION says it comes with a 5 watt bulb.Just how bright do you think a 5 watt bulb is??? This is NOT a "lamp", it is a decoration."Flimsy"?? Nothing of the sort. Again, purchased buy those who have no clue what hand made oriental decorations are supposed to be."Cheap"?? For eighteen bucks, I call it a great bargain!!....Now, my description of this.It is hand made from wood and "heavy" paper. Hand made mean you assemble with care and patience.Only has four screws so it take all of two minutes. If you assemble it carefully it goes together just fine. No, it is not a perfect fitting CNC machined product... it isn't supposed to be.I was stationed at Okinawa Japan for almost 5 years (20 years ago) and have seen and bought many products like this, and can tell you this nice little lamp is EXACTLY what you see in just about every home in Japan. If you are "afraid" to assemble anything, just go look elsewhere. If you have held a Phillips screwdriver in your hands a number of times, assembly is an extremely trivial task....While the bulb it came with is as described, I happened to have a 7 watt CF bulb with the right socket on it to put in it. (See picture for brightness)I LOVE THIS LITTLE GUY, and I'm going to buy more of these. They have a lot of different patterns to chose from.....If you have one of these and think it is too dim, just plop in a 4-7 watt CF or an 3-4 watt LED bulb and you'll be very pleased.Enjoy!!!

Beautiful little lamp
Some reviews mentioned that it was fiddly and difficult to assemble correctly. I found this not to be the case. As always, when putting something with several screws together, it never pays to tighten them up until all the screws are located and seated, and if you do this, everything fits and aligns perfectly. My only criticism is that the bulb is really weak. so I bought a stronger LED bulb (LED to avoid heating the paper up too much). I also added a dimmer switch, and now it is pretty much perfect and amazing value.

Beautiful unique lamp, assembly is required
The design on this lamp is truly beautiful. I bought this as a gift for my girlfriend who is Japanese and loves asian decor, and she loved it. It is a bit smaller than I expected it to be, however that's my own fault because it clearly says the size in the listing. This is definitely a small bedside lamp or decoration only lamp, not a floor lamp or anything like that. The bulb isn't very bright, however that is not an issue to me. If you're looking for a very bright lamp, however, then you won't want to get this. Although I imagine you could just buy your own bulb that has a higher wattage. I personally like that the wattage is low, as it casts a really relaxing, nice glow to my room when it's on.The only annoying this and reason for the 4 star rating is the assembly portion. Yes, you have to assemble it yourself, however, it's small so it's not like there is that much to do. My issue is that it isn't very sturdy, and it's not manufactured very well (even though it is beautiful). The grooves and holes don't match up very well; I kind of had to create my own hole for one of the nails. I don't think this could withstand a lot of manhandling or something, as previous reviews have stated that it's very delicate, although I'm not sure why you would be throwing a lamp around in the first place... I plan on getting another one as a gift since she likes this one so much.Overall, if your main goal is getting a very pretty, unique bedside lamp, then I'd recommend this. However, if you're unwilling to take the time to put this together, get frustrated easily, or want something that is less delicate and more sturdy, then I'd look into getting something else.

Fanciest Night Light I Have Ever Owned
I ordered two of these. I like them but they weren't exactly what I was expecting. The pictures seems to have more pink tones than red yet mine are a bold red. They aren't that sturdy for $15 a piece. Assembly was a pain. It kept wanting to collapse in on itself. I had to use glue. I understand the reason for screwing in the wood block that has the light socket attached but not the wood bar at the top - how do you expect to easily change the nightlight bulb. I didn't attach it to make it easier to change the bulb. That is the other thing...this isn't really a "lamp". It is a night light. You can't read by it but creates a soft nightlight glow.
