My daughter is a BIG fan of the Harry Potter series. When she saw this mug, she begged me for it. I purchased it for her as a Christmas gift so as soon as she receives it, I will update my review.UPDATE: 12/28/16 - This mug is truly a unique product. When the mug is cold it is black, as soon as you put hot water in it, it changes and reveals the Maurader's Map from the Harry Potter movies. I like the fact that the design wraps around the entire mug. I have another mug that is similar and the design is only on one side. My daughter loves it and couldn't wait to use it.All of my product reviews are based on my own or my families’ personal experiences and are honest and fair. Magical map revealed with heat from tea. Nice graphics. Would have liked a visible logo on cold skin, which is very dark and unattractive . Apparently will work well with coffee.

The media could not be loaded. I decided that this was a perfect gift idea for my best friend who is a huge Harry Potter fan but I was really afraid that I would order one and have it turn out to be nothing like the description. So I spent hours looking through all the different options for this kind of mug available on Amazon, tirelessly reading all the reviews to get an honest opinion. I settled on this one because it had the most reviews (a good sign it was the real deal), as well as a good overall rating. So as I was reading through the reviews, I was looking for those that addressed my concerns: 1. The color, 2. If it actually worked, and 3. The overall quality. When it delivered, I immediately checked for these things and so here are my thoughts:1. The color- The color is pretty much black/deep deep purple. I was really afraid that the map underneath it would be really visible, but to my surprise, it was hidden pretty damn well. If you look closely enough, you can see some of the map, but if you're not actively looking for it, it's really not that noticeable. It just looks like a plain black mug. When hot water is in the mug and the map is showing, there is a gap of white around/underneath the handle area. I thought it would be more annoying than it actually is, but considering your hand will cover it up while holding the mug, it honestly doesn't matter. It's not a super important area of the mug, visually speaking.2. Does it work- Yes and it is so damn cool! A few seconds after pouring hot water into it, the black color began to fade away to reveal a pretty detailed Marauder's Map. After pouring the water out, the cup took a couple of minutes to fade back to black as it cooled. It was super exciting to watch, it was like magic (teehee).3. The quality- This cup is a nice, comfortable size and the mug itself seems to be well made. None of the paint was chipped and the mug itself was in perfect condition. I expect it to last quite a while.Conclusion:I bought it with low expectations and I'm thrilled that it was so much better than I'd hoped it would be. I love it so much that I may even have to get one for myself! A brilliant gift idea that won't disappoint. Money well spent.

My manager loves anything Harry Potter, so I decided to give this to her as a Christmas gift. When she opened it during our shift together, she was just so happy and excited to receive such a gift. She told me that she uses it all the time whenever she makes herself a cup of tea. She said, "Oh my! My tea always stays warm and I just love the way the cup looks!" I was so happy to hear her say that! Unfortunately, I didn't think to take a picture of this product. But I'm just glad that my manager loves her Maraurder's Map cup. So anyone who's a fan of Harry Potter would definitely LOVE this product! It's worth the price!

It’s a neat cup! Just don’t put it in the dishwasher..

We have a few of these color-transforming mugs. Some of them seem to apply some sort of laminate to the mug, and it shows. That was disappointing. But this mug is stunning, and beautifully made. The image is incredibly clear and vibrant when it transforms. You will not be disappointed by its feel nor by its appearance.Just a teeny, well-meaning note of warning; anyone who would really appreciate this mug will also find it deeply bittersweet. It may not be possible for everyone who loves this mug to also want it to be their daily mug – and that's ok. It's a great idea, beautifully and loving executed. Just be reasonably certain that the person you want to give this to can manage a little daily melancholy with grace.
