Great for faculty to wear to graduation
I purchased this as a faculty member to wear to graduation. Since there aren't required specific colors or styles for faculty members at my university, this worked great. Purchasing this gown/tam set is significantly cheaper than what my university bookstore was charging faculty to rent regalia for just one graduation ceremony, so this purchase was a very good investmentSeveral other faculty members at graduation had the same or incredibly similar gowns and tams, and I was glad to fit in nicely with my colleagues. This doesn't come with the hood (I didn't expect it to - the listing is just for the gown and tam). If you don't have your original hood from graduation, be aware that you'll need to purchase that separately. The tam is good quality, adjustable, and fit my large head. The gown arrived wrinkled, but with a bit of low-heat ironing the wrinkles came out nicely. Tip: don't use a steamer to remove the wrinkles: it didn't work for me, and I also accidentally damaged a very small bit of the velvet when very hot water sprayed on the gown. The iron worked great (using fairly low heat - obviously test your iron's settings with a small area first). The only thing I don't like about this gown is that it doesn't have a button inside to secure my hood to. Instead, you'll need to use a strong safety pin or a button on your shirt.

Much better than expected for the price
It arrived on time, fit as advertised and feels like a quality, well-made product. More than adequate for the few times I will wear it to a ceremony.

Excellent Quality, Especially for the Price!
I cannot overstate how pleasantly surprised I was when the ensemble arrived! Given that I am priced out of my college’s official doctoral wares (>$800.00 to buy or >$200.00 to rent, when all is said and done), I didn’t expect much from what I thought would be a cheap-looking knock-off alternative. I could not have been more wrong and stand very much corrected. The material is much heavier and far more voluminous than I expected (I figured it would be loosely hanging and I’ll-fitting Lycra at best). The hood is a substantial piece with the distinctive materials and patterns. Even the velvet on the gown is understated and professional. The colors really pop without looking overblown or gaudy. Since this is my first encounter with doctoral garments, I cannot attest to how it is supposed to fit, but it does feel a tad big, but not a dealbreaker. I am so appreciative to have something other than a plain black gown to wear at commencement as faculty and would HIGHLY encourage anyone to give it a worthwhile and economical try. I won’t be ashamed to sport it in a few weeks and happy to have saved hundreds of dollars when every penny counts!

Decent doctoral gown, but size is a little too big
First off, this is a bargain compared to the $800 doctoral gown as others have mentioned. The material and quality is comparable and the length of the gown matches the height chart. I deducted one star because the gown is HUGE! The length is fine, but the overall width has me swimming in the gown. I'm not a petite guy and with Covid pounds I would say I'm at least 15-20 lbs overweight and I'm swimming in this fabric. I'll have to see if it can be altered as it is still a cheaper option than paying $800. I would recommend purchasing this gown, just realize you will need it taken in by at least 4-5 inches per side.

Nice Quality but HUGE
The quality of regalia is quite good for the price. It’s attractive, and it should last for a while. My only complaint is that the gown is ginormous! I’m by no means a small guy, but the gown is big enough to hold two or three of me and still have room left over. I’ll certainly need to take it somewhere and have it altered, which could be quite expensive. While the height is correct, I’d estimate that the size of the gown in regular clothing terms would be about a 6XL or maybe an 8XL. Someone weighing in at about 500-600 pounds would find it to be a good fit. When I have it altered, it will likely be about half the size it is now. I do recommend the set, but be prepared to take it in for alterations and to pay for the service.
