Amazing reference for youth coaches
A brilliant guide for coaches who want to understand the ins and outs of coaching a team and getting the best out of their athletes. It starts with the questions of why someone gets into coaching, forces some introspection and setting of expectations, followed by how to coach effectively and how to create a strong impact on your athletes and teams. Chapter after chapter contains highly practical wisdom that you can incorporate into your coaching routine. The beautiful thing about this book is that it needn't just apply to sports - even business leaders or people managers can get a lot out of this book by learning to communicate optimally, developing good empathy and rapport with your team and developing a good team culture. John prescribes a long term approach that sacrifices immediate gains for the long term benefit of the athlete, and draws the focus away from results to the overall benefit a good coach can bring to his team. This is a brilliant book that every aspiring coach, leader should read early on in their career.

Coach, you need to read this!
I've been coaching for over 20 years, primarily high school boys basketball, and this is one of the best books I've read on being a good coach. Some of the concepts mentioned I've already had to learn the hard way. I found myself thinking of how much this book would have helped me if I had read it when I started (though I'm not sure I'd have had the humility to learn from it).I've also come across a number of tips and ideas that I'm considering using next season or sometime in the future. This is a great book, and I'll probably be buying another copy to give to a new coach that I want to encourage.

Very Good
I would recommend this to any coach who is looking to improve as a coach. Great insight into many great coaches and programs. My favorite part was the actions you could take after every chapter.

This book is like Moonshine - powerful and hits home hard
What would it be like if you talked to the world's greatest sports athletes, coaches, psychologists across professional, college, high school and youth levels and you took all their knowledge and expertise and distilled it into a book targeting coaches of all sports and all levels?THIS IS THAT BOOK!It's an easy read on so many levels and a hard read too - as a coach you stop and you realize where you're falling short but then straight away John gives you 3 or 4 ways how to make information from Pete Carroll, Steve Kerr, Anson Dorrance, Cindy Timchal, Mark Bennett etc. applicable to you, your teams and your situations. There's more enough advice and ideas to apply that you'll need 3-4 seasons to accommodate it all. Begin today! I've already changed my Spring plans on co-creating our culture with players and parents directly because of this.I originally got the electronic version and half way through I bought the hardcopy to give to the President of our youth soccer league. We need to get this out to our coaches. This is pure gold. Like I said it's not an easy read but the hard truth never is.

Coaching manual
This is a book for anyone coaching a team in any sport at any level. It deals with just about every topic imaginable. Every chapter is different. I have gone back and reread many of the chapters separately that dealt with issues I was dealing with. Nothing in this book is sport specific. No X’s and O’s. I bought 2 copies and passed one on to a friend. Excellent book!

This book will Change the way you coach. The best out there, its the future of coaching .
If you coach , you HAVE to read this book , it is a book you need to read and read again in a few months. Its not about the X`s and O`s its about the athlete in front of you. After I read it I wanted to read it again, there is so much good information and ideas. This book is part of a revolution John O`Sullivan has been leading for a number of years. I have a library of coaching books and this one is top of the pile .Its the best out there .Its one of those books you need to read and put into action then in 6 months read again to absorb again and remember . Its better than any coaching course and a lot cheaper, Its money well spent .In fact they don't teach this stuff on any coaching course. This book should be in every coaches library, if you`re serious about improving as a coach.

Ogni allenatore dovrebbe leggerlo
Dovrebbe stare in ogni libreria di un allenatore che vuole definirsi tale. Peccato che non ci sia in italiano, ma la lettura è molto scorrevole lo stesso.

Lots of info
Not sure I would have appreciated this book as a novice Coach but I needed it. Coaches are in the relationship business and this cracker shows you how to create the environment to have better relationships with your players.

If You Coach...Buy Now!
I’ve read a ton of leadership and coaching books. This one may be the best. Convicting, informative and practical. If you are a coach or the parent of a student-athlete get yourself a copy and pick up a few extras as gifts.
