Easy to Setup With Great Instructions - UPDATE - Caught my first and, hopefully, last rat!
Well my rat visitor finally showed up again--in the afternoon---so brazen! So I set up the trap using peanut butter and nuts. It wasn't touched all day, but early the following morning I checked and most of the food was eaten and there were mouse and rat feces, but the door didn't trip. So I cleaned up the mess and left whatever peanut butter remained and figured I would add more bait later in case they would return in the evening. But just a couple of hours later, I heard the door trip, so I ran out and sure enough the rat was trapped! It was soooo sad because he was so upset. I immediately placed the trap in a cardboard box, which helped calm him a bit and then I drove him to a nearby hiking trail/park about 4.5 miles from me. I hope that is far enough. It's a good place so I hope he makes a new home there. So, bottom line, the trap is well made and definitely works!I just received this trap last night (got it in one day!), so I haven't used it yet, but I'm impressed with what I see so far. The instructions are well written with photos and they provide instructions on baiting and relocating as well as suggestions to ensure success. I tested it to see if it would spring and it works fine. It's nice and light weight and perfect size.I was planning on using the trap immediately upon arrival; however, my little rat friend hasn't been around in a couple of days. Maybe that's all I had to do---come up with a plan to deal with him and he would go away. I live in a condo located on a canyon so my community gets all kind of critters including coyotes (residents have finally learned to keep their cats indoors). I have 2 bird feeders attached to my dining room window, which overlooks my patio and provides me with hours of bird watching entertainment. I get up to 16 Mourning Doves and countless House Finches, Juncos and Song Sparrows visiting the feeders. With this much bird activity there are always seed hulls all over the patio, so I sweep my patio at least 4 times a day. Of course, I remove the seed trays at sunset and do a final sweep so as not to attract mice and rats. I reinsert the feed trays into the feeders at sunrise. All my planters are placed on wheeled trays for movability. One afternoon, I noticed a rat peeking out from under one of my planters. Actually he was pretty darned cute (I'm sure some who read this will be disgusted that I could think a rat is cute). I tapped on the window and he ran away. I was surprised since I assumed they only came out at night. The next morning I found rat droppings on the patio. After thoroughly checking the patio floor after each sweeping interval, I determined that he is coming sometime between sunrise and 8 am. (at least that's when he's pooping).I hope that I don't have to use this trap at all, but if more rat evidence appears, I'll set it up. My hope is that he'll come by at night because my concern is that if I set it up during the morning, one of the birds may get trapped.I will update my review with the results of actually using the trap, but I thought I'd at least offer an initial review of the quality.

A Great Catch & Release Option
I thought I had a mouse, but a camera in my kitchen revealed two rats, so I got this trap to catch and release them. That first night, I caught one of them. My pest control man took it to a release in the woods area. Three days later, I caught the second one, and my pest control man took it to the same area. I was happy with that, and I have had no more camera action or any sign of other rodents. We closed up all possible entry points. If I had another issue I would be glad I have this trap. It was great. Easy to use and worked perfectly. Also, affordable.

caught the rat alive
The media could not be loaded. Had a critter in the kitchen that was bold enough to run across a counter with several people standing right there talking. It was clearly not afraid of us, or the dogs, but had seemingly managed to keep hidden from both cats well enough that I had to get involved.Glue traps have worked well enough for us to catch mice that I then will peel off of the glue using some cooking oil if they are reasonably calm. I hate killing things, and the snap traps endanger the kitties too, so it meant live trap, glue , or electric zapper type. The zapper worked as a tool because both the holes on one side of a tunnel shape were open enough didn't feel like it would be enclosing them, and they were more likely to get far enough into the tunnel to trigger a death zap. They are warier of newer ones that are closed on the other end, but our old unit just stopped zapping for some reason. Got one of them anyway, in case of failure of the cage trap.Honey is just a big softy, so he was against dispatching the guest, to the point I told him maybe he could keep it as a pet if we caught it. I baited them and set up traps not to trigger at first, but after a week, just nothing at all, not even bait missing, but had not heard the guest in the wall for a while either. Cat chased something in the living room that I heard nibbling on some wood so I moved the trap in there. Once everyone left the house for a few hours, apparently that was the time to explore and came home to hear some thrashing and crashing in the living room. Poor thing was starting to fling little droplets of blood around, but I didn't see a wound, so it was probably a result of biting at the cage wires trying to escape. I stuffed a bit of broccoli in there with him and that calmed him down after he realized I wasn't going to hurt it.Kinda cute, really... but Honey was tasked with his removal since I had to take out the last rat we had caught in a glue trap with a hammer because it shrieking and flailing in such a panic there's no way it could have been safely detached and relocated. Terrible traumatising experience to have to put it down manually, but it would have been a real problem if it had woken up Honey and he'd seen that - I would never be allowed to harm a termite afterwards! So points for it actually catching and keeping the rodent that had enough smarts to keep away from the murder mitten kittens, and was fairly tame enough to sit in the cage next to me once I didn't eat him.It held up despite being gnawed on, but the biggest issue I had with it was that the set up needs a bit of clearance above it so that the door can close and its just too tall to place on a shelf which had to use glue trap instead. The door could use a way to lock it besides the bar across it, as that felt like it might loosen under duress, so holding it by the door in the right direction uses cage weight to keep it closed, but I felt better putting it all in a bucket too.But trigger works, and it did the job.

Works like a charm have caught mice, chipmunks, and rats with out issues. Never an escaped rodent always nice and safe. We'll made nice and thick, been kicked a few times by the horses with no damage.

works well, simple, hasn't rusted
works very well for anything under squirrel size, i find works best if bait is placed under trap under the trip pan. they have to try to get bait through mesh and trip pan and caught, use variety of baits, bird seed, peanut butter, cheese.Have used outside and zero rust or issues. helped to relocated a few chipmunks, mice, mole, and even rats.to release , set trap near cover (like bushes) opening towards, lift lock bar. gently tilt handle for gate shake and critter runs for cover!! i like that i don't have to kill anything. birds i release on the spot i caught, not so desirables i take a few miles away to park

Great trap!
So I had a squirrel up in my attic for a few months. I tried a few different traps with no luck. I bought this one and was finally able to trap the little bugger. I had to put the peanut butter on the far top/back of the trap, but once I did it got the job done. Worked like a charm. The mesh is small enough that you don't have to worry about your fingers going in and getting bit.
