My new daily carry. Like it so much I bought a second.
I have a LOT of knives. Most of the brands you would expect and some really high end you may not. I have a couple handfuls of spyderco knives as well.I bought my first of this all black salt model about 6 months ago and use it in my pocket around the house when working outside. I use it to cut open bags or salt for my pool and water softener. Wipe it off and no rust whatsoever. I ended up sharpening it and it took an edge very well and appears to be keeping the edge a while as well.I liked it so much I bought a second one to keep with me in jeans and ‘nicer’ shorts when out running errands etc. I know it may sound like overkill since I could just use the same knife but I wanted to always have a spare of this knife. The black coating on the blade and hardware appears very tough. So far so good and it neither knife has any scratches etc. I really love this knife. Love the blade shape as well.

Lives up to the marketing; impressive steel
First, this knife is as rust proof as knife can get; I live on the gulf coast and its been on over a dozen fishing trips. I have intentionally worn this with me into the surf while casting and cast netting... hours of salt and sand, dried, and right back in... I left it alone and didn't wash for the first couple trips, absolutely no rust. The only reason I feel compelled to wash it is for the fish smell. Lastly, and foremost in my book, this steel holds a sharp edge. Far more than just a working edge, it is easily able to shave hair and maintains that edge through multiple fishing trips (field dressing fish, rigging, bait cutting...). I hesitated for so long because I heard other reviews of soft steel and weak edge... this knife is more than adequate... in my opinion this knife surpasses any of the blister pack knives you'd find on the shelve. Not going to hold an edge like CPM S30-45V, but every bit enough for majority anything you'd actually use a pocket knife for. I have zero issue washing with dish soap and using for food, wash again and put in my pocket damp... something I wouldn't dare to with carbon steel, or top shelve folders with bearings etc... just don't expect to split firewood, or use it as a pry bar..

Spyderco Pacific Salt, yet another awesome Spydy for my collection!
I have around a dozen Spyderco knives from the less expensive Chinese made ones, which I like very much, to the more expensive, made in Golden Colorado, USA, Earth, which I love. This one is made in Seki-City, Japan. It is a very well made knife, much more along the lines of the USA made lives than the Chinese knives. The blade comes SHARP! Right out of the box. One of the sharpest knives I have from the manufacturer. It is very light, similar to my Manix II light weight knives, maybe even lighter. The pocket clip can be placed wherever you like it, but it is not a deep carry clip. It is a lockback mechanism which is one of the strongest. And, I LOVE Spyderco knives because they are so well made and aesthetically pleasing. Over and above all of the above I got it as a fishing knife and it is supposed to be quite rust proof.

A knife that does not rust.
This is the third one I bought. It’s not cheap and you can’t expect it to keep the edge like S35VN steel, it does keep the edge within reason but it’s simply will not rust. My first one went down the sea and was not recovered. My second one is still in my tackle box and in its fifth year of use in the Gulf of Mexico. This one is a gift for my sister who fish the Pacific Down Under. I only throw mine into a bucket of rain water for a minute and hang it dry, no rust after five years and possibly many more.

Best Out There
The Spyderco H2 line is the best EDC knife out there. I’ve had them for years & given several as gifts.

Great knife but issues...
Good: The knife is an excellent design. Came super sharp, is as close to rust proof as you can get, feels good in the hand, and comes at a fair price. Bonus points for the all black "murdered out" version. Looks awesome! Lots of reports from knife collectors on the issues with edge retention of H1 steel, but I have not experienced that. I don't work my knives very hard, mind you, but I don't find myself sharpening H1 much more than my knives in other steels.Bad: This knife came seriously dirty from the factory. I know it was not used, because the black finish would show rub marks from just about any use, and this example does not. There were globs of a rubbery glue like substance stuck all over both sides of the blade, and it took several washing attempts with hot water and dish detergent to get the blade clean. Ultimately, I had to entirely disassemble the thing to get it completely clean of whatever this sludge was. In addition to the goop, there is an area on the blade where the dark black finish is "stained" a dark brown color. Almost like the finish in that area was partially rubbed off before it was completely set.I own a handful of Spydercos and they have all been close to perfect except this one. So, it is a little disappointing. having said that, I bought this for a work knife, and it will probably look like garbage in a few weeks anyway. So, I will not be sending it back.
