The Fox in The Forest is competitive. The Fox in The Forest Duet is cooperative. They are not the exact same game. Duet involves a board and moving tokens.

What's the difference between this duet version and the original?

Duet is cooperative whereas the original Fox in the Forest is competitive. In Duet you are working together to strategically control who wins the trick in order to move the "Fox" towards whoever won the trick. You're trying to clear all the gem tokens within 3 rounds to win.

If you are on a space with more than one gem can you & your partner play cards with no movement value & just keep picking up gems from the same space?

My wife and I had this same thought. I would say YES. Thats a pretty rare occurrence, and I believe in the instructions would conform that at the end of every trick you collect one gem on the tile you are on (not multiple of course). Since you only would be collecting one gem per trick/turn you would be good.
