The polymer used for these units... are of the flexible state
The polymer used for these units are of the flexible kind, and as such I cannot recommend using either side of it in the protection of wooden flooring. Also, these units come rolled up so tight that i believe i saw Tommy Chong on the other end of it if ya know what i mean. By the time this mat had acclimated enough to my environs so that it might become flat, i had totally forgotten about this purchase, but i did as the manufacturer recommended, minding every last detail. No matter how much i clean whichever side and my flooring, this mat, composed of the flexible type PVC would move with me as i would scoot my chair into my work station, out of my work station, over to my nightstand to grab some tylenol, out to the living room for my daily "office-chair jousting tournament", and even to the bathroom. My only recourse was to tape this thing down with some carpet tape, but since this is a clear mat, it was as if i had relegated myself to a life of shame. Even my nephew made cracks at the expense of my "magic carpet" I didnt ask for some genie to poof me into a prince so that i might boldly encroach upon the sultanate of some callow, gullible imbecile with an astonishingly bright, sensible, and dare i say, beautiful daughter. All i wanted from this piece of plastic was simply to create a surface at my workstation with which i could practice my office chair aerobics, and exercise my kegels. 3 out of 5 stars for the model I bought, and i would not recommend.

Hard to unroll
This one I struggled with - I followed the directions in hopes that the material would relax and unroll correctly. However after having it for a month and tripping over the curled corners, I bought a different chair mat as I stubbed my toe one too many times and tripped one too many times. I wish there was a way to make it completely relax so that I can use it, but right now it's laying on a wood floor in my closet hoping the heat of winter will make the material relax.

Decent for the price
As others have said, this mat comes rolled up. It's best to let it warm up in the house before you unroll it. You will have to fight with it a little bit to get it flat -- better to have a friend help you. I put some heavy stuff on the 4 corners for a couple hours, and then rolled it in the opposite direction. By day 2 it was laying completely flat. It doesn't slide on my area rug. My chair will leave dents in the mat if I sit in my chair in one spot for too long, but those dents will fade after a while (assuming you move your chair around or stand for part of the day like I do). I have had this issue with every plastic chair mat I have had that is meant to sit on carpet, so not really concerned.

Office Chair Mat
I had a horrible experience with this. I am almost 80. Had great difficulty getting the box open. The mat was in a roll. I got it out of the box. Then, I tried to unroll it and cut myself on the plastic prongs on the bottom of the mat. With great difficulty, I got it unrolled with the prongs on top and held down with books. Then, I went back and looked in the box. There was a very small sheet of white paper in it telling me I should get the mat warm before unrolling it. If I were wealthy, I would toss this mat and get a solid plastic mat. I am going to have to get a different one. I am afraid the prongs are ruining my carpet.

Good quality
Having read earlier reviews I knew to submerge the mat in warm water to warm the plastic enough to make it pliable. That did the job in seconds. The mat seems to be doing what I hoped, which was to protect a nice wool carpet from being dragged or bunched up by the wheels of my son’s desk chair. It is laying both on wood and carpet. I’m hoping that it won’t damage the wood because the weight of the chair is resting on the rug. It seems like good quality. I’m pleased with the product.

Sturdy
It’s sturdy but trying to get it to lay flat is a pain unless you have weights

Sturdy, small mat
Very sturdy, unfurled fairly easily in a couple days with weight on it. Wish it was a bit longer but it looks very nice under the desk chair in our office. Love the transparent color.

It's a pretty good chair mat
Bought one of these as my work chair was starting to damage low pile carpet. It's quite heavy / thick and comes rolled up.Used it for a couple of weeks and no complaints so far.IMPORTANT● Don't follow the instructions, which asks you to put weights on it, doesn't work!● Stick in a hot bath for 10 mins. It will soften surprisingly quickly.● Unravel the mat in the water as it warms. Make sure ALL parts are immersed and that any curled or hard parts are flexed until malleable.● After 10 mins remove from bath, quickly dab dry both sides - especially carpet side as if left wet could cause carpet to rot - and place in position. It will lie flat.● IMPORTANT Resist the urge to place your chair on the mat and sit on it immediately, as if it's still warm the plastic will deform and you'll be left with dents before you start using it. So leave it to completely cool and harden for a couple of hours.I would buy again but the makers should revise the instructions as placing weights on it does not work half as well as the above 😀

Not fit for purpose
Bought this to replace a crumbling, but very sturdy older floor mat that had served faithfully for years.Frankly, this new one is not fit for purpose. Sure, it looks nice, but it is way too thin to be functional. If you look at the accompanying picture, you'll see the dents. The worst of these, in the foreground, was from about five minutes use this morning. Said dents make the chair difficult to move when you want to get up (potentially hazardously so) having a tendency to trap you in one position. Additionally, when moving the chair, the little carpet grippers underneath the mat can be clearly felt through the chair rollers, leading me to believe that the mat will not last long due mechanical flexing. If you want more to consider, look at the smaller dent to the right of the foreground dents. That was from the chair alone, where it sat overnight. In short, even the weight of a chair on its own is too much for this mat.Having decided to return it, I then easily rolled it up and put it back in its box without any assistance. Again, too thin and too flexible. My advice is not to bother with this one. It is just too thin and too flexible to be of use. Buy something better.

** HOW TO UNCURL AND FLATTEN EASILY ***
Hi, just seeing a lot of people a little frustrated by the mats taking ages to flatten out.Just pop it in a very hot bath for a few minutes before lying it on the floor to cool. No weighing down objects needed to keep it flat.It becomes very flexible when hot and will keep it's totally flat shape as it cools. As far as the mat itself.Have had to return the one I ordered and order a flat bottomed one as the grip spikes are too long for for carpet tiles in my office and it leaves a bumpy surface which is difficult to move a roller chair on.Didn't find the description of the product described which mat to order very well, so ended up ordering the wrong type.

It's decent, it works but it's not nearly perfect.
So, as others have said the easiest most stressfree way of flattering it is putting it on a hot bath, makes it suuuper easy then. I also out a towel over it once placer and used a iron. Now super flat. Sadly it gets dirty really fast, I don't know what material it's made of but seems to attract dust and what not so much. Really gets filthy so fast and very challenging to clean. However it works and is protecting my floor. So can't be all bad. I'd say it's somewhat worth the cost.

Good, but could do with some floor grips
Great product for the price, but could really do with more adhesion on the bottom to grip the hardwood floor as has a habit of shifting about with the movement of the castors on the chair.
