how long does it take for the odor to dissipate after opening?

I opened it up at 1 PM and slept on it at 10 PM. I smelled no odor.

It does not fit up into the older sofa beds. Those with original mattress size of 66” wide by 68” long.

72 inches long by 53 inches wide by 4.5 inches deep. Similar to a full size bed mattress. If the people are small they would be okay, but a queen or king size mattress would be more accommodating for two people.
