INDESTRUCTIBLE! The best garbage truck around
I've been meaning to post a review on this for months--mainly just because I want to rave about how well made this thing is. When we got it, I wasn't sure how long it would last in the hands of our 2 year old, but this thing has taken some serious crashes off of tables and is somehow still un-dented and unbroken. It's just a surprisingly well-made toy, even though something about the plastic seems more delicate or brittle than most truck toys. The dumping mechanism is challenging for a little kid to turn, but even when it's just forced up and down, which is what happens with a toddler, it hasn't broken--another win. We own two other garbage trucks and this one's can-dumping process is the most seamless as well (meaning that in the other trucks, the lids often stick or the cans somehow don't make it to the opening or are hard to position correctly). The trash can lids can pop off occasionally and require an adult to re-attach (for little kids at least), but the truck itself is SOLID, which makes it a pretty perfect toy.

Terrific idea for trash truck loving kids but not durable enough
On the positive, my grandson loves his truck and smiles everytime the trash can dumps out. On the negative, he has a difficult time turning the handle to start the motion, the handle is very small and close to the can. Also, the small tab that holds the can in place needs to be more durable. They snapped off easily and within 2 days of using it, 2 of the 3 cans broke so now I attach and wind for him so not as fun since he can't use On his own.

Great Trash Truck
If your 2-year-olds love watching the cartoon about the trash truck, this is a winner! It's big, it's green, and the trash dumps into the top behind the cab. Crank the trash cans up the side and auto dump trash into the roof bin. Clean out the truck by opening the back-end doors at the rear of the truck. Three little trash cans have swinging lids. Lids sometimes come off their hinges but not a big deal. Big hit with the twin grand kids!!

A fun toy for truck lovers
I love the large size of this truck. It's a pretty close replica of the real thing. The back opens up and there's a small lever on the side so you can tilt it down to dump all the "trash" out. It also came with a little trash bin, which was green, not yellow as pictured. Not an issue for us, but just a note in regards to the color difference. There's a mechanism that can pull the little bin up and into the trash shoot; however, it gets stuck quite often and doesn't always work. And when it does work, instead of smoothly pulling up to the shoot, it'll shoot straight up like a rocket and fly away from the truck. No batteries required, so considering it's manually operated I thought it was a little overpriced. However, it's still a very fun toy and my truck-obsessed toddler absolutely loves it. His favorite thing about it is that the trash shoot on the top can fit a lot of little items, so he has fun placing things in it and pretending he's hauling a truck load of trash.

Favored toy
Got this for my grandson, who, like many others, loves watching the garbage truck come each week. I read the other reviews, and decided to get it - despite some of the negative. I purchased this in April, so he's had it a couple of months. At first the "dumping" mechanism was a little sticky, or threw the trash all over the room (which was still a lot of fun), but it has smothed out as time has gone on. It now dumps the load in the hole almost every time. On top of that, today - for the first time, my 20 month old grandson was able to attach the can on his own, press the button and dump the garbage - all on his own. He's been patiently trying to do this for over a month - and he was sure excited when he finally did it!! He uses a lot of creativity trying to figure out what else besides the paper crumples we've made, fits in the cans (I also purchased an extra set) and can be dumped. I would say it's really helped him work on patience, problem solving and fine motor coordination. Definitely worth what I paid. This is consistently his favorite toy.

Design flaws are a real shame for an otherwise great truck
I think this toy is great; my son was begging for a side loading garbage truck so I was happy to find this toy at a great price point. It earns a three star rating for a few reasons: 1) the spring to pull down the side loading lever is crazy tight; little fingers can't really do it by themselves which means they get frustrated and/or ask you every three seconds to pull it down for them. As well, ours is not straight, so in order to make it click into bottom position, you need to straighten it out - too much for a young kid to figure out while simply trying to get it down in the first place; 2) because the spring is so tight, when you push to bring the can up to dump into the chute, it gets launched; if there is "garbage" in the can it can weigh it down so this doesn't happen, but.... yeah, tell your five year old he needs to balance out the weight to the spring power.... 3) the other cool thing is that the back opens - so it works like a dump in that all the garbage dropped down the chute can be poured out; except that the way to open it is hard to find and tight; my five year old did finally figure it out, but my three year old is always asking me to open it for him. So while the truck is a great design with fun features and is good quality, these design flaws make it annoying. Still, my boys seem happy playing with it.

Can lift doesn't work - requires manual lift leading to break in 5 minutes
I watched the video and put the can in from the bottom instead of the top like you would intuitively think to do it. Pushing it down to engage the button is impossible for either a 2 or 5 year old. When you press the button, it doesn't lift so the kids have to push it up themselves and when they do it at any angle the holder immediately breaks off. It's impossible to take the can out of the holder without pressing it out very forcefully with a tool. The only thing that works is rolling it on the floor - the inertia of going forward works. Which is not why any kid wants a garbage truck. All of the different branding versions of this truck look exactly the same with the same type of reviews.
